Jan 2006 – Date                     Self-employed

Providing PC support and advice to private individuals.  Developed booking management program for a local holiday company using Visual Studio .Net, C#, ADO and Access database. The source code and documentation for this work can be downloaded from :

I have also been working on a number of other private projects using the .Net technologies.

Mar 2005 – Dec 2005             Career break. Renovating my house in Normandy.

May 2003 – Feb 2005            GlaxoSmithkline, Ware

Permanent role supporting and enhancing GSK’s business software systems.  Programming in VB in Visual Studio .Net using ADO and SQL Server.  Team leading activity, customer support, training and reporting to our American counterparts. Use of Remedy system to track incidents Achieved a number of merit awards.

Aug 2001 – May 2003            Amedis Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge

Contract role initially, then permanent, developing a SQL Server database for storing drug discovery data. Programming in C++, first with Visual Studio 6.0, then with Visual Studio .NET using ADO to interact with the database. Developing reports using Crystal Reports. Used ASP to develop company intranet site.

Jul 2000 – Jun 2001              Ling Dynamic Systems, Royston

Contract role, developing Windows application to control and monitor vibration test equipment.  Working in Visual C++ 6.0, MFC and Windows 2000. Used XML to import and export vibration test data to and from third party applications. Use of Excel automation.

Oct 98 – Jul 2000                   NatWest, London

Contract role, supporting NatWest’s retail banking software.  The role involved live problem analysis and resolution, analysis of systems in view of year 2K, customer telephone support and reporting.

Feb 98 – Oct 98                     Columbine JDS, Leighton Buzzard

Contract role, maintaining and supporting a suite of Broadcasting software applications.  Software written in Visual C++ and MFC. Dealing with customers (MBC, Disney) to understand their requirements.  Production of functional specifications and development of new features.

Aug 94 – Jan 98                     Pi Research Ltd, Cambridge

Permanent role, developing motor racing software.  Key elements of role:

·         Team leading car Setup project

·         Working on data analysis project using Windows MFC and C++

·         Work for Indy Car system used by Penske racing team, development using MFC and Visual C++ and Visual Basic.  Fact finding and support trips to America.

·         Development of telemetry system for Williams F1 team.  Visits to client’s site and Silverstone for testing.

Oct 90 – Jul 94                       Computervision, Cambridge

Developing CAD/CAM products written in C, C++ and FORTRAN to run on multiple UNIX platforms. Achieved merit award for production of user manual.

May 90 – Aug 90                    Travelling in Australia and New Zealand

Development of CAD system in FORTRAN and C under VAX/VMS.

 

Sept 86 – Sept 88                  Sema Group, London
