The transcripts of TV shows and commercials on this site help you to explore TV shows and commercials. This site also has links to more transcripts and scripts, other sites with links, news program transcripts, and other writing- and TV-related sites. Further, this site tells you how to make transcripts, recommends a few magazine articles about TV, gives data about the role of the U.S. in the world as entertainer, and shares my own ideas around TV and transcripts (see also the front page). Finally, here are notes about my transcript format.
All of the programs and commercials on this site are at least a year old. This protects the original creators' rights to something fresh and profitable while still allowing you to examine what goes into dialog, scenes, episodes, of real programs. Unfortunately, the staleness of my transcripts did not stop Universal Studios from threatening me into removing eleven transcripts from this site. All but one of these transcripts were from shows no longer airing, except in syndication. I and everyone I have heard from do not understand this!
This is a non-profit site. Actually, you can donate to it at the bottom of this page, but so far, no one has. The ads that Yahoo!Geocities puts in the upper right hand corner of every page do not benefit me, except to give me this Web space.
About the ads, if you have images turned off, you might not realize that you can get rid of these by clicking them in their very upper right hand corner. This is perhaps better than banner ads. Relatedly, they use timeouts, which can bog a browser down. If you ever find that a page stops loading or that your links cease being active, you're surfing too fast for what they're doing: next time, turn scripting off.
History of the site: In the early 1990s, I had an idea about why Americans such as myself are so interested in TV. In 1996, I started making some transcripts for myself. In 1997, I thought others might enjoy them, too, so I started this site, The Television Transcript Project. The site grew from there: see the site log. I lost interest over time and others gained interest: there are a lot more people making transcripts now (see links). Also in the past couple of years, a few people created sites of links to all of the transcripts out there. Great! Finding and keeping track of links was never anything I wanted to do. So my work here is finished except for occasional updates. I am glad to hear that visitors find this site helpful and entertaining.
I have some other Web projects and a humor and miscellaneous links page. A strange note, all of my sites are believe it or not! It's a very powerful editor with a primitive user interface. I am a software engineer.
