| So what exactly is Healthy Eating? It is eating foods that remember where they came from, in moderate amounts. That means lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Depending on your beliefs you may want to add dairy products to your diet as well, but if you choose not to there are many excellent soy alternatives available. Eating meat, that is anything that used to have a face, is taking a risk with your health. Why, you ask am I saying that eating meat is a risk? Well because our bodies just weren't made to eat it. Meat is basically the same thing that our bodies are made out of and you would never consider eating yourself would you? Another concern in this day and age is the risk of disease that now comes with eating meat. Diseases ranging from E.coli to mad cow disease are caried in meat and the best way to avoid them is to not eat meat. So what do you do if you're already eating meat? It is entirely possible to stop eating meat and not only will it not hurt your health, it will actually help it! Benefits include lowered cholesterol and faster digestion of foods. Nearly every food you eat will still be available, either with a meat substitute or just simply without the meat. For some recipies that are meat free check out my veggies page. Healthy eating also needs to be low in fats and sugars. Why? Because they are high in calories and very low in nutrients. Your body really doesn't get much to feed it from a can of soda or french fries. Even though it tastes good to you, your body is hungry for vitamins, minerals and protien. These diet additives when used a lot can lead to obesity and diabetes. The best defense against those is to eat a low-fat, low sugar diet! The final key is to eat everything in moderation. Your body doesn't need a seven course meal every time you eat. It does, however, need to have food regularly. That means DON'T skip meals, especially breakfast! Can you imagine trying to get to work by starting your day off with the gas tank of your car on empty? Well it's no different for your body, it also needs to start the day off with a full tank. If you treat your body with respect, it will last you much longer and you will be able to enjoy life a lot more! For some tasty, healthy recipies click below. |
