Jaguar XJ220 |
|
This is a Tamiya kit, #24129. It is a 1/24 scale Jaguar XJ220. This was my first attempt to get back into modeling after a very long hiatus. I didn't do as well as I hoped, but I did pretty good except for one mishap discussed in the paints section. NOTES: It is a right had drive model only. BUILDING TIP: None PAINTS REQUIRED: I list Tamiya's Paint designation as well as the color name, so that you can get whatever manufacturers paint you want. TS = spray, X = Gloss, XF = Flat
This car comes molded in a nice metallic silver plastic like the prototype pictured on the box. Since the actual cars are painted and upholstered to order by the customer you can basically pick any color you want for it. The directions given by Tamiya are for a Gloss Aluminum car. I originally chose Dark Green Pearl in Testors "Colors By Boyd" line of paints for this model. After the first coat, however, the wind blew the shell over onto my newspaper where it was sitting to dry. A little dirt in the paint and where it was touching the paper the paint was marred. When working with transparent paint there is no practical way that I know of to fix this problem. You can sand off the paint and try again or you can try to put layer after layer of paint on trying to cover it up. Either way you will lose details on the molding. See the tips page for hints on working with transparent colors. I chose to change the body color to Gloss Black. This allowed my to keep the Tan I had selected for the interior without looking bad. Also, Black covers very nicely so I didn't have to put a heavy coat of paint on. I sanded down just the marred area a little and painted it again. PICTURES:
This is the best shot I could get of the metal transfers. Sorry it's so blurry.
