The Tour de France is more or   less in a world of it's own.It has it's own bank which open's                   independently of the rest of            France ,it's own restaurant's and it  even has it's very own language..... Well sort of. On this page I've        given you some of the word's of     this language and translated them.

B

Bidon:

French term for a riders plastic drinking bottle.

Block:

The freewheel assembly of sprockets fitted to the rear wheel of a bike.

Bonk:

Cyclist's term for fatigue caused by a lack of nourishment during a race.

Bottom bracket:

The axle unit about which the pedals and cranks turn.

Break(breakaway):

A small group of riders in the race that accelerate away from the main peloton.

C

Col:

French name for a mountain pass.

Commissaire:

The official or referee who is in charge of the race.

Criterium:

A race held on a short circuit in a town or village.

D

Directeur Sportif:

The team manager or coach.

Domestique:

The work-horse of the team,he will sacrafice himself to help his team leader finish in a good position or pace him back to the peleton after a crash or puncture.

E

Echelon:

Term for the slanting line of riders to combat a cross- or head-wind.

F

Feeding station:

A stretch of road where team helpers are allowed to hand out food bags to the riders as they cycle past.
