Welcome
If you've come to the introduction page, that means that you're either new to the style of Shiho Karno Ryu, or new to the Alpine Martial Arts Dojo. Whatever the case, here you will find a breif introduction to both to hopefully fufill whatever questions you may have.

The Style
The primary style taught at the Alpine Martial Arts dojo is Shiho Karano Ryu, founded by Soke Clement G. Riedner. Shiho Karano is a blend of Shito Ryu, American Goju Ryu, Kamishin Ryu, and Aka Ryu Shakai Kempo. It is a Japanese based karate style which seeks a balance between hand and foot technique.

Club Affiliations
Alpine Martial Arts is affiliated with the Shiho Karano Kai International, also known as the SKKI. The SKKI is the administrative arm of 'Nippon Shiho Karano Ryu', even though it is open to all arts and styles. Founded in 1982, the SKKI is actually an outgrowth of the CBBA, or Christian Black Belt Association, which Soke Riedner founded in 1970.

The Club
Club(n.) - 1. a group of people associated for a common purpose, especially a group that meets regularly
Our purpose at Alpine Martial Arts is to teach the student self discipline, self awareness, self defense, and build self esteem. What you will be learning should be personal and be used only to protect yourself or a family member from inevitable harm.

Testing and Belt Promotions
Testing and belt promotions are based upon development of skill and technique. Generally promotions are every 8 to 12 weeks up to brown belt, but are not automatically given. Remember that karate is an individual effort, and to put a time frame on promotions would be unfair. Each student is unique with his or her own ability to learn. When the instructors agree a student is ready for a promotion, then a testing notice will be handed out.
