SYMBOLISM

Symbolism is a series of tools which activates the senses and triggers the emotions through experiences and memories to enable the mind to make decisions and work according to one's will.   The more senses involved, the better the results.

EXAMPLE:-

Poor

A woman tries to describe to her friend a dress she has just purchased so that her friend may buy a similar garment.  (Eidetic imagery - i.e. make a mental image.)

Slightly better

She shows her friend a black and white picture of the dress in a newspaper advertisement.   (Vision - colour absent.  Two dimensional.)

A little better

She shows her friend a colour picture in a catalogue.  (Vision, with colour but still in two dimensions.)

Better still

Her friend looks at the dress in the shop window.  (Vision with colour and now in three dimensions.)

Even better

Her friend examines the dress in the shop, feeling the texture of the material.  (Vision with colour and in three dimensions plus touch.)

Best

The Friend tries the dress on in the shop, moving about before a mirror to see how the dress hangs and to judge if the style suits her and how the material feels to the body.  (Vision, colour, three dimensions, touch plus the kinaesthetic element, i.e. body movement.)

This is the concept behind successful sales techniques.

So it is in practical working in The Mysteries, using hearing, speech, sense of smell, sight, touch and body movements thereby maximizing the use of the senses.  (A ritual meal/drink brings taste into the equation.)
