Dance Team Tryouts
General Tryout Information

   ~Current members of the UA Dance Team are required to try out every year.  No members are given preferential treatment.
   ~University at Albany students are required to have a minimun 2.0 GPA to participate in athletic programs.  There are tutors available for athletic students provided through the Athletic/Academic Department.

What should I wear to tryouts?
Come ready to tryout.  A tank top or crop top with shorts or dance pants is acceptable.  Please do not wear baggy clothes.  If you have dance shoes please bring them with you.

When will I find out if I made the team?
The final results will be posted outide the Dance Studio where you will try out.  There is no set number of candidates that will make the team. 

Who judges the tryouts?
The judges will be a group of professionals.  They will not be given any information about the individual dancers prior to or during the tryouts.
When are tryouts and how will they work?
Tryouts are usually held in April then again in October.  Applicants will be taught two routines, one jazz and one hip-hop.  These routines will be taught over a two day period and expected to be performed with a partner on the third day.

What is the team's style?
The style is a combination of a jazz/hip-hop type of dance.  They also perform pom routines and short cheerleader-style routines on the sidelines of football and basketball games, as well as basketball time outs and pep rallies.

Do you offer scholarships?
At this time we do not offer scholarships.  In the near future, there is a possiblity of a book scholarship for juniors and seniors.
We are allotted a budget from the Athletic Dept.  Any other money we need is obtained through team fundraisers.

What technical aspects of dance will I have to know for tryouts?
As well as the general grasp of dance technique, the judges will be looking for double turns, axles, leaps, switch leaps, toe-touches, and extensions.  These will all be taught at tryouts.
