…Lesbian Gay and Bisexual life
Going to university is, for most of us a very liberating experience, with many students from very different backgrounds and cultures. University offers an exciting time with much diversity and liberal minded atmosphere.
Going to University as a lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) offers the same liberating experience as anyone else. Within the union there are a number of opportunities for LGBT peeps to get involved, and areas that specifically cater for LGBT people. One of these areas within the Union is the lgb pride society, the lgb pride society will offer you all the support that you need, whether it be advice on coming out or health advice we will be there for you. Most importantly it’s a network for you to be able to meet other people like yourself and share experiences. We also happen to run excellent socials as well?
On the third floor of the union there are information leaflets, including the gay guide to Birmingham, the healthy gay life info on counselling Services, a Different Rainbow Newsletter and info on different support for different ethnic groups.
Getting all that stuff out of the way and down to the nitty gritty here's the long awated scene guide. each place is seperated into Clubs, Bars and Cafes... Where possible a link to the offficial website is included.
Clubs
The Nightingale
A large club with 3 levels with 3 atmospheres. A cheesy pop floor, a
restaurant/cafe and a house music floor. Being one of the oldest and most
well known gay clubs, it has a very mixed-age clientele, from 18 to anything!

Subway
A club with cheap drinks and fantastic drinks offers on Thurdays and Saturdays
The club plays anything from house to R & B, and from rap to cheese. It
has a cafe and a dimly lit 'recreation' area. It’s also the only club
with its own house stripper. Being located on Livery Street buses leave outside
Angels Cafe Bar between 10 and 11:30pm.

Classic gay club! Brill drinks offers and friendly staff make it a fab night
out! Music from R & B to cheesy pop to hard house, a good variety to satisfy
and discerning ear! Membership costs £2 per year (just £2!) and
you then save £2 on entry each time (so don't forget your card!).

Pubs & Bars
Angels Cafe Bar
We Love Angels... And we'e not just saying that because it
is where we have our meetings but because we genuinely love the place... Angels
open glass frontage was the start of gay bars opening themselves to he world
instead of being hidden behing black windows. Fab music, cheap drinks and
brilliant staff make this a popular venue. Not only pre-club but for a lunch
time meal as its open during the day as well.
The Jester
Just off the scene on Horsefair is the well established Jester. Mainly a place
for the older guy, and those who love them, the Jester is a quaint pub for
the easy drink. It hosts regular competitions including the Weakest Link and
Karaoke!
The Village
Catering for the more mature (no, not old!) crowd, the village is a nice pub
with a great atmosphere. The village hosts one of the best house nights.
Missing
Missing is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy a good cabaret from
top drag artists, heckling and some pretty attractive barmen, this is the
place for you! Cheesy music and good laughs galore!!
Enigma
Enigma is advertised as for real men who like real ale. but the truth is,
its camp as tits. Well when its ready. The sister bar of Missing, Enigma boasts
cabert just as good as it sister (opening night saw Toppy and Butch in action)
If you can stand the real Men. its a place for real fun.
The Fox
A mainly female bar, but is welcoming to both men & women. It's a cosy
bar with a sheltered garden and a pool table.
Gallows / Edwards
No. 8
For those of you who love rock, there's the gay-friendly Gallows. Located
opposite DNA, the Gallows offers cheap drinks and fantastic rock music.Above
is Edward No. 8. The main dance floor pumps mostly main stream rock, the smaller
floor has cheesy vibes, while the top floor carries the dark heavy metal.

Route Two
Route used to be a firm favorite amongst the group, but opinions have split
recently with the change of management. People love it because of its cheesy-dancy
music & its popularity, but others hate for the falling standards of bar
staff, numbing down of the music class and lack of variety in drinks.

Kudos
In the week Kudos is a fab, relaxed place to meet friends and chill. On a
weekend, Kudos transforms into a place for the 'beautiful people' *cough*
utp their own arses *cough*. If you're young, hip & trendy then this is
your place! Most of us are neither, but go anyway!! You have to try the many
different varieties of shooters! B52 & Samantha's Orgasm are just two
of them, but a favorite has to be the cowboy, just mind what he's sucking!!

Cafes / Resturants
Equator
The newest venue, we think it's a cafe bar, but as we're slightly drunk by
the time we get here we're not quite sure! None the less, it's proving very
popular. It has a light and airy feel, with lots of comfy furniture straight
out of Habitat!
Dome bar & cafe
Not gay, so much as gay-friendly! The Dome offerd a relaxed Parisian feel,
good food & fabulous coffee! It's a favorite for relaxing & chatting,
especially before we go to meetings!
