Franklin Alfred Dyer

Franklin Alfred Dyer, a/k/a Frank Dyer, was born 13 Feb. 1883 at Chelsea, Massachusetts. He married Alice A. COFFIN of Boston, who was born about 1883 at Martha's Vineyard, the daughter of George F. Coffin and Mary (Lynch) Coffin.

Here is the child of Frank and Alice (Coffin) Dyer:

  • George F. Dyer, born 9 March 1904 at Chelsea, MA and died 5 Feb. 1976 at San Jose, CA. He married Elsie Lovell, who was born about 1908. They had one daughter, Georgia Frances Dyer, born 23 Jan. 1935 in CA and died 31 July 1988 at San Mateo, CA.

They were living in Chelsea at the time of the "Great Fire" of 1908, and they lost their home and possessions. Frank and Alice divorced in September 1909. [Alice remarried to James Goodwin, moved to California, and had another child, Alice Goodwin. Alice A. Coffin Dyer Goodwin died 14 July 1979 at San Jose, California.]

Frank Dyer circa 1910. To quote his niece, he could "play anything that had strings." In this photo he seems to be costumed for a play or musical production.

In July of 1917, Frank Dyer is drafted into the Army during World War I. However, the Armistice was declared before he reached Camp Lee, Virginia.

Sometime around 1920, Frank, his sister Annie, and his mother, Elizabeth, moved to Easton, Pennsylvania because of relocation of his employer, Madesco. Frank remarried on 19 Aug. 1926 at Elkton, Cecil Co., Maryland, to Lydia Fern COATS. Fern Coats was born 19 Aug. 1894 in Indiana. (This is still a great mystery to me how Frank living in Easton, PA, met Fern living in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and why they got married in Maryland. My only guess was they met through the Masons/Eastern Star organizations.)

Here is the child of Frank and Fern (Coats) Dyer:
  • John Alden Dyer (subject is still living, and therefore, no more can be posted about him).

Frank and Fern lived in Palmer Township at the time of John's birth. They moved to a farm in Washington Township, Northampton Co., PA when John was about five years old. At that time, Fern's brother, Gideon, also lived with them. In 1954, Frank retired from Madesco Tackle and Block Co., Easton, where he had been a trafficing manager. Frank and Fern moved to Bangor, PA around 1960.

Frank Dyer died on 7 May 1962 at Bangor, PA. Fern Dyer died on 31 July 1966 at Northampton Co., PA. Both are interred at Northampton Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Palmer Township, Northampton Co., PA.
