10-29-2000: I've come to the conclusion that trying to keep up with the nightly builds is a losing battle. Finally got around to making a Milestone 18 compatible version of Ultra Classic, though.
02-25-2001: Well, I finally got around to updating this thing. While there are no new features, the existing ones are now up to date. Internally, things are a bit different, though. I took a new image set of all the navbar buttons. This will make it easier to provide an "images only" version in the near future.
02-25-2001 cont'd: The "images only" version is ready, and the download page has been fixed. I had to zip up the xpi files. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would the web server like zip files, and hate xpi's? The only difference is the file extension. <sigh>
04-02-2001: Ultra Classic .81 for Mozilla 0.8.1 has been scrapped. 0.8.1 had a nasty habit of hanging whenever I added a bookmark. This problem persisted even after a completely fresh reinstall of 0.8.1. I'm going base Ultra Classic .82 on March 31 2001, build 20, instead. Not only does it seems more stable than the last milestone, it also includes a number of features that didn't make it into the 0.8.1 branch.
04-22-2001: Been kind of busy with other things. Ultra Classic has sat in limbo for the last couple of weeks. Spent the wee hours of the morning finishing up what I have. Unfortunately, build 2001033120 has an annoying "gif annihilator" feature. Downloading a newer build over my SLOW modem connection at the moment. If the new build doesn't screw up the theme too badly I should have something to post as soon as I get the theme installer updated.
04-22-2001 cont'd: Not a lot of time to work on it, but I did manage to get it (.82) rushed out the door. It's based on nightly build #2001042120. The current nightlies apparently aren't handling the theme installer correctly. Because of this, there is no installer for this version. Older version .80 will remain on x.themes.org for the foreseeable future. .82 is available for download on the download page, as a zip file. See the readme for instructions. Due to lack of time an images-only version is on hold for the moment.
04-23-2001: Looks like bkramm managed to get the newer style theme installer working with his Gray Modern theme. Well, at least I know that it's possible with the current Mozilla builds. An updated version of .82, based on the newer-style theme installer will be posted as soon as I find the time.
05-01-2001: Version .83 has been scrapped, due to problems I was having with the jar installer.
05-04-2001: Version .89 was posted, but then pulled soon afterward. It stopped working when I put a fresh install of Mozilla with a new profile.
05-05-2001: After having to revamp the directory structures, banging my head against the wall for many hours, and dealing with "gotchas" like chrome versioning...without proper documentation in front of me...Version .899 is ready and has been posted on x.themes.org It's based on Mozilla Nightly (0.9 Candidate) Build #2001050417. This is the first working version that's based on the jar installer. The good: It's easier to uninstall. The bad: it's harder to install. Spending the rest of the day recoding large swaths of this site.
05-06-2001: Site updates are complete. Version .899 is on the new download page.
05-22-2001: Just got informed that my account on the "wind server" at the local college will expire on July 1st. http://www.livin4.com/uc/ will be the new (but still banner-free) home for the Ultra Classic page. Since Version .899 seems to work ok on Mozilla .9 and since Mozilla .91 is just around the corner, I'm going to wait for the next milestone before making the next update to Ultra Classic.
05-30-2001: Well, looks like
I spoke too soon. It started when I began testing out a few ideas
on the .899 files. Then I tried out the experimental code that
was posted on Bugzilla as a patch to bug #22056. Since I was fairly
happy with the results of the updates, and since I have no way
of knowing whether patch will work on Mozilla .91, I decided that
this warranted its own release. I basically took the ideas from
my tests on the .899 files, reimplemented the changes on a fresh
copy of the Classic theme and Navigator chrome, and packaged it
all up for release. The end result: a more classic looking theme
and no more need for a separate images-only version.
Spoke too soon on the webpage move too. After trying it out for
a couple of days, I came to the conclusion that livin4.com's server
was too slow and unreliable. It's kind of a shame because their
service is free, banner-free, and the terms of service are pretty
good. Off to Geocities, at the end of June. <sigh> Hopefully
they won't "pull a Tripod" and delete this page for

06-30-2001:
* x.themes.org is back! Ultra Classic .899
is up there at the moment. (site was restored from an old backup??).
I'll post UC .9 on x.themes.org when they get "manage resources"
fixed.
* The patch to bug #22056 doesn't work with the .91 release of
Mozilla.
* Since Mozilla .92 is currently out, there is no point in working
on a .91-compatible version of Ultra Classic.
* Waiting for an updated patch for bug #22056. If one isn't ready
soon, I'll go ahead and release a .92-compatible version of UltraClassic
without the patch.
07-01-2001: Spent some time hammering out Ultra Classic .92 Since no .92-compatible patch for bug #22056 is currently availible, and since I don't have the know-how to write my own patch, this release will not have a fix for this bug. A little more testing needs to be done. When this is finished, I'll package it up and post it on the download page. It will also be posted on x.themes.org, as soon as they get their issues resolved.
07-02-2001: Ultra Classic .92 has been posted. Fixed some broken links and "dead" install buttons on the download page.
07-05-2001:

08-12-2001: Ultra Classic .93 has been posted on the download page. x.themes.org will be updated within the next hour or two.
01-01-2002: Work on Ultra Classic has resumed. Don't expect anything right away, though. Many of the "old tricks" don't work anymore.
02-04-2002: Ultra Classic .97 has been posted on the download page.
02-24-2002: Ultra Classic .97 should work fine with the current 0.9.8 milestone. Finally seeing some movement on bug #22056. I plan on building the bugzilla patch into Ultra Classic sometime in the near future.
02-25-2002: Ultra Classic .97 definitely does not work on the current Mozilla milestone. A newer version of Ultra Classic will be developed, just not as quickly as I had hoped.
