The Union Grove High School
NJROTC Unit was opened in August of 2000, when Union Grove High School was
opened. The unit opened with few cadets, 38 or so. The teams were little
developed and the motivation was little. The first cadets had much work in
store for them as "Plank Owners." These cadets would set the path for the
future cadets of the Union Grove NJROTC.
In its second year,
Union Grove had an average of 80 cadets in the unit with many growing teams
and activities. The unit held its 1st Annual Inspection on September 27,
2002, and was awarded the "Bravo Zulu" pennant in honor of the good work
that was done. The unit also held its 1st Annual Military Ball and attended
its 1st Drill Meet, at Savannah State University.
The Unit is currently in
its 3rd Year. The newly appointed staff is very eager to begin the year.
Many new ideas and operations are to be put into effect as well. The new
Unit Goals have also been set and the staff and other cadets will try their
best to go above and beyond the set goals.
The cadets, who are
participating on a team this year, will be working many hours each week to
improve the team, so that in competition, they may have the chance to win
trophies and medals to show off to the rest of the unit. Cadets will have
a chance to participate on the Rifle, Drill, Athletic, Color Guard, Academic
and Orienteering teams. Many are excited about the up-coming "Blue Jacket"
team, which will premire this coming year, lead by NS2 Cadet, Leigh Anne
Wright.
As the unit grows,
the number of cadets, and the motivation of these cadets, grows too. The
unit hopes to achieve the title of "Distinguished Unit" this year, and
will continue to work hard toward that status.
