“Pasyon ni X”(Passion of X)  mobile puppet theatre project

The mobile puppet theatre project is part of the group’s overall efforts in grassroots education, urban poor children’s advocacy program. It is envisioned to travel to various urban poor communities around Metro Manila. The production  is  based on the retranslation of the Pasyon (Passion of christ) which will adopt elements of the traditional Filipino lent ritual, portrayed from the perspective of children living in poverty and will be rendered as a puppet rock musicale. The biblical story will address the plight of the marginalized sectors of society and highlight their role as a persevering and capable people. As in the traditions of public art, the production will combine tradtional puppetry made from various materials, live music, costumes, movements to create a highly participatory, community theatre that would be engaging at the same time appealing to audiences from various ages. The project is dedicated to community, celebration and change.

The production will involve other artists, musicians and writers together with urban poor children as well. It will evolve through a series of discussions on different national issues and workshops that will focus on the study and analysis of Filipino cultural and religious traditions.
