Another Villanelle
The villanelle form intrigues the Coyote and he likes to try his hand. several but.
The Voices We Hear
We walk the path directed by free will
accompanied by an ancient unheard choir
the voices of the dead are with us still
Through our actions our desires now fulfill,
response we think to an intense desire
the path we think directed by free will.
But hearts and minds are made, for good or ill
and all that came before our genes acquire.
The voices of the dead are with us still
The old man's walk, his weaknesses instilled
with all your strength you try to quench his fire
and walk a path directed by free will.
Alone now, you've drunk and had your fill
your sacrifice, your life, will now inspire,
but those voices of the dead are with you still
We cannot find all that our heart's desire
without the song of that most ancient choir
Although we walk a path directed by free will,
the voices of the dead are with us still.
