Harry’s Third Year: During the summer between Harry’s Second and Third Year at Hogwarts, Harry feels as if any summer couldn’t be worse. Harry’s Aunt Marge comes to visit the Dursleys, treating Harry like a juvenile delinquent. Harry can take this, until Marge starts speaking badly of his parents, without even knowing the truth. In rage, Harry accidentally blows up Marge, and packs up his Wizarding things along with Hedwig, standing on an empty street corner past the Dursey’s house, wondering where to go and hoping he wont be expelled from Hogwarts, or arrested for that matter, for blowing up his Aunt. As it turns out, Harry isn't punished at all for his errant wizardry. Instead he is mysteriously rescued from his Muggle neighborhood and whisked off in a triple-decker, violently purple bus to spend the remaining weeks of summer in a friendly inn called the Leaky Cauldron. What Harry has to face as he begins his third year at Hogwarts explains why the officials let him off easily. It seems that Sirius Black--an escaped convict from the prison of Azkaban--is on the loose. Not only that, but he's after Harry Potter. Harry joins Hermione and Ron, his best friends on the Hogwarts Express as they discuss Black in a far car in the back with only one other occupant: Remus Lupin who will be their new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. Dementors, the Azkaban guards, board the train at a stop, and cause Harry to pass out, leaving him visions of his parents’ death in his mind. Throughout the Hogwarts year, Harry is terrorized by the Dementors’ images of his dying parents, while Sirius Black gets closer to Harry. Meanwhile, Harry is using the Marauder’s Map (created by Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, who Harry has no idea who are) to sneak into Hogsmeade with Ron and Hermione, where he is not allowed. While in Hogsmeade, Harry overhears a conversation held by Hogwarts’ teachers about Sirius Black, where he discovers that Sirius was his parents’ secret keeper and betrayed them by turning them over to Lord Voldemort, and not long after, killing 12 people with one curse. He also reveals a shocking fact: Black is Harry’s Godfather, as well as James’ best friend and Best man at his parents’ wedding. After following Crookshanks, Hermione’s cat (who was following a big black dog), they found a secret fortress in the Whomping willow that lead to the shrieking shack. There, Hermione, Ron, and Harry discover that Sirius Black and Remus Lupin were good friends with James Potter, and were “Padfoot, Moony, and Prongs” of the “Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs” who made Harry’s map. They then discover, when in the fortress with Lupin and Black, that Black was innocent and Wormtail, or Peter Pettigrew, was responsible for the death of Harry’s Parents. They then discover that Wormtail was Scabbers, Ron’s rat, and was disguised for the past 12 years (faking his death). Hermione, Ron, Sirius, Remus, and Harry bring the guilty Peter (who Harry insisted that they not kill, but turn in to the Ministry) head back to Hogwarts Castle (along with Snape who tried to “Catch them all”, but was stunned by Hermione and then dragged back to the castle). Most unfortunately, to ruin events, Remus turns into a werewolf (having not taken his potion to keep him sane), and Wormtail escapes. Meanwhile, Harry and Hermione must flee (Ron cannot, because he had broken his leg while entering the Whomping willow) while Sirius battles Lupin while in dog form. Remus flees to Forbidden Forest, and Snape wakes up. He takes a stunned Sirius and Ron up to the hospital wing and turns in Black. Hermione and Harry use the time turner to free Sirius as well as Hagrid’s pet Hippogriff, Buckbeak.

Harry’s Fourth Year: Now 14, Harry has only two more weeks with his Muggle relatives before returning to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yet one night a vision harrowing enough to make his lightning-bolt-shaped scar burn has Harry on edge and contacting his godfather-in-hiding, Sirius Black. Happily, the prospect of attending the season's premier sporting event, the Quidditch World Cup, is enough to make Harry momentarily forget that Lord Voldemort and his sinister familiars--the Death Eaters--are out for murder. You-Know-Who is very much after Harry and that this year there will be no Quidditch matches between Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Instead, Hogwarts will vie with two other magicians' schools, the stylish Beauxbatons and the icy Durmstrang, in a Triwizard Tournament. Those chosen to compete will undergo three supreme tests. Harry is not eligible to compete, and isn’t upset about it either. But somehow, his name was placed into the Goblet of fire (which chooses the Champions from each school for competing) and he must compete in the Triwizard tournament. Harry has to face a Hungarian Horntail, Rescue Ron from the Hogwarts Lake, and enters the third task at a tie with the other Hogwarts Champion, Cedric Diggory of Hufflepuff. The third task is a maze that is going to be guarded by many dangerous creatures and spells and Harry trains well on what to do. He and Cedric reach the Center of the maze, where the first one there is to grab the Triwizard cup, and decide to grab the cup at the same time. Little do they know that the cup is a portkey and they are transferred to Voldemort’s house. Cedric is killed right away and Harry is taken captive and his blood is used to revive lord Voldemort. Voldemort calls all of the Death Eaters again and is brought again to power. He duels with the dark lord, and is able to escape because of a reaction performed between the two wands of Harry and Voldemort (they are made of the same core, so something strange happens when the duel). Harry escapes with Cedric’s body with the help of the “ghosts” of Harry’s parents, Cedric Diggory, Bertha Jorkins, and the innkeeper of the Riddle’s home.  There is no house cup winner at the end of the year, but a mourning feast in the Memory of Cedric Diggory. In the meantime, Dumbledore asks Sirius black to gather all of Dumbledore’s old supporters against Voldemort and hopes that their fight against Voldemort will rise and prevail.
