The Application Process
Qualifications:
According to the UJP-UP Constitution:
Section 1. Qualifications
A. all currently enrolled UP Diliman College of Mass Communication
students and campus journalists from other colleges in their individual
capacities are qualified for membership.
B. An applicant must have at least two semesters before
graduation including the application period.
Requirements:
- autobiography >> which is not your traditional
this is my name, and i live in... and my parents are... -write-up.
we want to know you, not memorize your vital stats. go tell us - or rather
write for us - something that we don't know. the more shocking, the
better.
- buddy write-up >> your buddy is your primary link
to the org as an applicant, therefore you should know him/her well - or at
least, good enough to be able to write a personality profile. and because
your buddy has probably been with us for some time now, the vital-stats-approach
just simply would not work. and so we pose this challenge - go write something
that will make us reconsider expelling your buddy from the org. kidding aside,
come to think of it, it's actually fun, this writing about somebody, thinking
of ways you could *do something* to alter his or her image. (hmmm. why didn't
i think of that when i was an applicant?)
- position paper >> the position paper is a scholarly
paper. you will be given a list of topics consisting of current issues in
and out of the campus, and you will be asked to write about your position
on the issue you have chosen. this is the most serious paper you will ever
write for the org during the application process, and your stand should be
complete with the necessary support for the arguments, and of course, documentation.
[5 to 10 pages, double-spaced, Garamond 12, with bibliography, at least 10
sources.]
- sigsheet >> self-explanatory.
- first interview >> the first interview is an informal
interview. for the most part, it deals with you personally, (like your reasons
for joining the org, for example) and your answers in the sigsheet.
- final interview >> unlike the first, the final
interview is a formal and batch interview. which means this time around, it's
your whole batch that gets interrogated by the members. questions usually
revolve around batch unity and the constitution.
- BMEx (2)
- EDs (2) >> one of them has to be about
the constitution. the topic for the other one will be decided upon by the
EducCom.
