| This was the first installation regarding Stari Most and Mostar, which came about after a visit to Mostar in September 1994. I had researched Stari Most since before it was destroyed on the morning of November 9th 1993, during the conflict that caused the break-up of the old Yugoslavia. The installation linked a drawing of Stari Most about to fall, with an arc of 3,300 white stars, cut from white card. A drawing of The Neretva River was laid on the ground between both of these elements of the work. Lights on this drawing represented the lives of the disappeared and lost. A thread of star shapes ran up from the last light on this drawing and on up through the arcs of stars to connect with the ceiling. This symbolized the going out of and beyond this place of the bridge and those lost in conflict. | |||||||||
