1997 – Marshall is sacked from his on-off job at “Gilberts Lodge” as he often favored rapping in local clubs to turning up for work. Kim is now working as a stripper to try to bring in more money, but the young family are now in serious financial trouble and Kim feels it would be better for Hailie if they both go and live with her parents at their family home. The break up was not easy and consequently, Kim rarely lets Marshall have access to Hailie. On an occasion that he was allowed to see her, he told Kim he was taking her to Chuck E. Cheese but instead took her to a studio to record the now infamous record “97 Bonnie & Clyde” in which Hailie helps to throw Kim into the sea after an argument. Hailie’s vocals were used in the track at one point she even interjects “Mommy…” The track originally appeared under the name of “Just The Two Of Us” on the “Slim Shady EP” and later re-emerged entitled “97 Bonnie & Clyde” on the multi-million selling album, “The Slim Shady LP”. Marshall enters the Rap Olympics in LA as he is in desperate need of the $500 prize money. He comes second but his tape got passed to the legendary Dre via Jimmy Iovine who asked for his tape. 1998 – Still not reconciled, Marshall writes the track “Kim” which he describes as the argument they had before he killed her (in “97 Bonnie & Clyde”). Kim and Marshall put aside their differences and get back together. “The Slim Shady EP” is released and Kim is in attendance. However, according to on-lookers, the pair fight so heatedly that Kim has to be dragged out of the party “kicking and screaming after she tried to fight him on-stage”. Things are going well for Marshall or “Eminem” as he is known to the world and his relationship with Kim is back on. The pair get engaged (again!) and set a date for the wedding. May 1999 – Marshall buys a house in Sterling Heights for himself, Hailie and his bride-to-be. Dawn and Amy also lived with them, as Dawn couldn’t afford her own place. 14th June 1999 – Kim and Marshall wed in St. Joseph’s Missouri. There are only five guests in attendance as the pair want it to be low profile and out of the press. Kim later said in an interview: “Nobody really knows he’s married. A big part of it is that 80% of Marshall fans are girls. And he’s good-looking. They think they stand a chance”. Click here for a couple of wedding pictures! |
