After an excruciating wait, the Metroid Prime is finally available, and from the second you turn it on you know it's not going to disappoint. Metroid oozes in style, from the main menu to the music everything is done brilliantly, and Metroid fans have nothing to worry about in this regard. The opening scene, with added voice narration for PAL gamers, continues this class, and provides a great insight on Samus Aran. Once this is over, the camera zooms into Samus and its game time. Thankfully, you start the game with your main abilities:
  • Beam/Charge Beam
  • Varia suit
  • Missiles
  • Morph Ball
  • Bombs
  • Scan and Combat visor
*Mini spoiler ahead* These are your standard features, but you don't have them for long. After exploring the space station which you landed on, it breaks down and you have to rush out and escape. No matter how long you have left when u escape, you're suit is destroyed, and you lose many of the aforementioned features. Never fear, this is where the Metroid series excels, as you are rewarded with one of these features plus extras as you progress through the game. *End mini spoiler* Complete this segment and you reach the beautiful Tallon IV overworld, a lush environment that is constantly raining. Thankfully you get to save here, and then you're off to the first world, CHOZO RUINS.
By this point you can't stop playing the game and you'll see just how much Metroid Prime has to offer by the sheer size of these levels. Chozo Ruins is another technologically sound level, and the gameplay matches this. After only going through 10% of the game, I can see why this is proclaimed as Game of the Year (2002 in the case of the USA) for many.
