Supports used to construct wooden roller coasters are called bents. The type of bents very depending on the height of track, the angle of banking, and manufactures.

  Standard bents

The standard bents are generally composed of two 4" x 6" bent posts vertically attached to concrete footers. Cords and cross bracing are attached to provide stabilization. A ledger is placed near the top of the bents for the track to be placed on.

  Banked track bents

Banked sections of track are constructed slightly differant, the two vertical bent posts are still braced with cords and cross bracing. The ledger is attached at a given angle to provide for the banking of the track. Batter braces are attached to the outside of the bents to provide additional support from the sides as the train exerts force out as it goes around a corner.
