Natural Environment
The Union Territory of Delhi occupies a noble
position on the sub-continent. It is situated on the water-shed dividing
two mighty river systems of the Ganga draining into the Bay of Bengal and
of the Sindh falling into the Arabian Sea. The vast plains of the sub-continent
narrow down in this sector between the Thar-Aravali barrier, projecting itself
from the south-west and Himalayan outliners thrusting themselves from the north,
thus giving this area the character of a broad alluvial neck.
