| ****************************************************** University of Michigan Band Alumni Association E-Letter Vol. 1, No. 1 – March, 2002 ****************************************************** News / Notes Welcome to the UMBAA Newsletter! Following up on a commitment to foster greater communications among the membership, the Executive Board has recommended a quarterly newsletter to supplement the information and features usually found in the M Fanfare. The content of the newsletter will be largely determined by your contributions - but keep in mind that longer feature articles will be better served for inclusion in our semi-annual M Fanfare. Dennis Gmerek has agreed to serve an initial term as editor of the newsletter. You may email your contributions to Dennis.Gmerek@usa.net or mail to 1066 N. Wagner, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103. The deadline for contributions will be the last day of the first month of each quarter. (e.g. For the remainder of 2002, April 30, July 31 and October 31). We hope to see your ideas and news! Another initiative being implemented to foster more effective communications is our new UMBAA website! Michael Lee has taken the lead in designing the initial site - the prototype of which can be found at http://www.oocities.org/umbandaa. Once completed, the site will be accessible from a link on the UM Marching Band site http://mmb.music.umich.edu. Join us and provide your valuable input!

Keep your classmates informed of your whereabouts and accomplishments, new additions to the family, alumni obituaries or other items of note! For inclusion in the newsletter, please send all announcements to Dennis Gmerek at dennis.gmerek@usa.net. ************************** Do you wish the UMBAA would become a more dynamic organization? Do you want to directly impact the direction our group is taking? Your opportunity is here. Consider participating in one of our new subcommittee /workgroups! Committees have been formed in 6 key areas to improve the efficiency of our organization and further our mission of service to the University Bands. Each committee will have specific areas of responsibility and meet only several times per year. The committee's findings and / or recommendations will be forwarded to the Executive Board for consideration and implementation. Don't live near Ann Arbor? No problem... These committees will work creatively and allow your "electronic" participation! Watch this newsletter and the M Fanfare for a more detailed description of these committees. For now, though, the six committees (and contacts) are as follows: Membership Affairs Committee (Linda Ridley - lridl@advantagecs.com), School of Music Committee (Rich Alder – Richalder1@aol.com), Publications Committee (Michael Lee – texdragon@yahoo.com), Homecoming Committee (Gary Straffon – gstraffon@aol.com), Governance Committee (Scott Ludwig – sctludwig@aol.com) and the Finance Committee (Ryan Nixon – rnix@umich.edu). This may be YOUR LAST CHANCE to purchase "The Revelli Years with the U. of M. Symphony Band" – boxed sets of 6 LP records each ($55.00 per set, shipping included). These boxed sets are the last of the series released by Golden Crest Records and consist of live performances recorded in Hill Auditorium. We have only a few each of volumes 1 and 5 remaining. Contact Scott Ludwig (sctludwig@aol.com) for a complete list of selections contained in each volume and dates of most of the performances.
