The Alumni Pep Band

The alumni pep band is composed of people still interested in playing their instruments while supporting Michigan athletics. The pep band has been playing at hockey games and basketball games when the regular pep band is not available and has also been playing at the Michigan softball games during the summer.

John Wilkins has been directing the Alumni Pep Band since it first started.

"It is my extreme honor and privilege to serve as the director of the University of Michigan Alumni Pep Band. When Gary Lewis and I first talked about forming a group of Alumni Band members to serve as a substitute band for the student Hockey and Basketball bands, I promised him that we would take the opportunity very seriously, and perform at the games continuing to represent the University of Michigan Band Program with a quality sound, enthusiastic drive, and the highest standards of integrity. We just concluded our 11th season and I can safely say that our Alumni Pep Band has met the aforementioned expectations. I greatly admire the Michigan Alumni band members and I am truly thrilled to hear them play. The Michigan fans have been very kind to our group over the years, many taking time to stop by after a performance to express how much they enjoyed hearing us play." - John Wilkins
