Jul 11th 2003 Amanda Crisanto argues that the movie "Roger and Me" and the book "Nickel and Dimed" approach a common theme from different directions Roger and me and Nickel and Dimed Essay The movie Roger and Me by Michael Moore and the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich are similar. They discuss the conditions of the working class. They are different because they do it in different ways. They are different because Michael Moore is more open then Barbara Ehrenreich. Michael Moore goes to people and ask them about their situation to see from there point off view. Barbara Ehrenreich is not up front she is like a bystander watching everything. She is very sneaky with everyone instead of asking she just listens to the conversations of the poor people. And from her point of view tells the life of a person. They are similar because they both talk about the different kinds of jobs the working class has. In the movie the jobs are low wage paying jobs. The main job is working in the GM Factory. In the book the jobs are also low paying jobs. The main jobs in the book are waitressing, and being a maid. They are similar because they both show that one job is not enough that the people would have to get two jobs. They are also different because they both present themselves differently. Barbara Ehrenreich is doing her experiment under cover, making it seem like she like all the other people around her. She is doing it that she is experiencing some of what the poor people are going through. Michael Moore is like a news crew where he is like a reporter. He goes around asking questions and waits for the answers. Even though he sometimes is ignored and is asked to leave. In conclusion they discuss the conditions of the working class. They are different because they do it in different ways. Michael Moore is more open then Barbara Ehrenreich. They both talk about the different kinds of jobs the working class has. In the movie the jobs are low wage paying jobs. Barbara Ehrenreich is doing her experiment under cover, Michael Moore is like a news crew. |
