(Matt 26:34)
Simon Peter- was the brother of Andrew, who brought him to meet Jesus. Peter was recognized by Christ as being his "rock", (Matt 16:13-20), from their first meeting when He named him Cephas,(Petrus) after which he was usually called Peter. Jesus called to Peter and Andrew, "Come ye after me, and I will make you to be fishers of men". (Matthew 4:18-22) Peter became the leader of the twelve, but Jesus still had occasion to rebuke him. "Get behind me Satan! You are a stumbling block to me. you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." In spite of this weakness, his position as head of the Apostles was later confirmed by Jesus. The women, who were the first to find Christ's tomb empty, received from the angel a special message for Peter (Mark 16:7). To him alone of the Apostles did Christ appear on the first day after the Resurrection (Luke 24:34; I Cor.15:5). But, most important of all, when He appeared at the Lake of Genesareth, Christ renewed to Peter His special commission to feed and defend His flock, after Peter had thrice affirmed his special love for his Master (John 21:15-17).
Peter is presented by Mike Stevens. Mike is a Counselor at Lindsay Middle School. Mike and his family are long time UMC members.
Pictured is Paul Smith who played Peter for several years.
One day Jesus was walking along the banks of the Sea of Galilee and He saw two fishermen, "James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them. And they forthwith left their nets and father, and followed him." Our Lord gave to John a name which means son of thunder, and of all the twelve Apostles there was none whom He so deeply and warmly loved. Peter, James, and he were the only ones Our Lord admitted to the room where he raised from death the daughter of Jairus. They alone were present at the Transfiguration and at the agony in the Garden of Gethsemani. At the Last supper it was John who sat next to Our Lord. He was the only one of the Apostles present at the Crucifixion, and it was to him that Our Lord intrusted the love and protection of His greatest treasure, His mother.
John is represented by Bobby Boydston who has done the part since the first year of the drama. Bobby and Miram are members of the UMC of Lindsay.
Bob is a owner of Boydston's Funeral Home in Lindsay.
