BOMBERS FILE CHARGES AGAINST ARGOSSept 28, 2001 WINNIPEG,
MB - The CanSFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers confirmed today that they have filed a criminal complaint against Toronto Argonauts owner Ron Philipp, the Toronto Argonauts and numerous Toronto area newspapers for libellous statements. Blue Bombers head legal council R. Greg Yost informed the media as follows:
"At 10:44 today, I handed a complaint to Justice Kennedy of the Court of Queen's Bench at 219 Kennedy St. The complaint is wide reaching, with primary pertinence to sections 298(1), 298(2.a), 299(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The defendants listed on the complaint include, but are not limited to, Ron and Irene Philipp of Toronto, the Toronto Argonauts, Ron Baffoe of the employ of the Toronto Argonauts, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and CityTV. A civil suit has also been filed pending resolution of this complaint."
Greg Yost, father of Blue Bomber owner Ken Yost, would not comment further. He has been a lawyer in the Province of Manitoba for over 20 years. The Toronto Argonauts and Ron Philipp could not be reached for comment. The two teams face off of the gridiron Saturday night in Winnipeg, no court date has yet been announced.
