BOMBERS WHEEL AND DEALAug 22, 2001 WINNIPEG,
MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced to the media today three more trades, involving 6 players and 7 draft picks trading hands.
The Bombers made a trade with the Toronto Argonauts monday night that involved the Bombers trading RB Simon Baffoe, who had been rumoured to have asked for a trade and the Blue Bomber's 6th Round 2002 CSFL Draft Pick. The Bombers recieved
from Toronto two non imports, RB Brad Elberg and WR Markus Howell along with Toronto's 9th Round 2002 Draft Pick. In an interesting side note to this trade, Ron Philipp owner of the CSFL Argonauts denied having made a trade many hours after the deal had been completed.
The Bombers conitnued their wheeling and dealing by completeing a trade with Ottawa. Long time fan favorite CB Brandon Hamilton and an 8th Round 2002 draft pick were sent to Ottawa in exchange for offensive lineman Dave VanKougentt who is expected to end up starting for the Blue Bombers.
In a final deal, the Bombers confirmed that Roell Preston had indeed demanded a trade. They sent Roell Preston to Calgary for 4 draft picks. Calgary's 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th Round picks were sent to Winnipeg. Front office sources stated that this move was a welcome one, freeing up needed roster space without merely releasing players.
All players are expected to dress for Sunday's game in Waterloo.
