BLUE BOMBERS SLEEP IN OWN BEDSAug 27, 2001 WINNIPEG,
MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers returned yesterday at 10:45 p.m. This is amazingly their first time west of the Manitoba - Ontario border in over 3 weeks. The Bombers left Winnipeg for Nova Scotia on August 3rd and then stopped in Ottawa, Hamilton and Waterloo.
Although their road trip began July 29th in Calgary, the Bombers have yet to complete their road trip, as they have to compete in the Labour Day Classic in Regina this Sunday, September 2nd. The Bombers were out 2-2 out east and 2-3 overall on their extended road trip.
Blue Bombers owner Ken Yost flew the players home in his private jet immediately following the conclusion of the Bombers 34-22 drubbing of the Waterloo Pirates. Mr. Yost also took some time to speak to the press upon exiting onto the mosquito draped tarmac of Winnipeg International Airport.
Mr. Yost reiterated that he believed that the scheduling was seemingly done at random, and stated that he had a long talk with the CanSFL Head Office and that past mistakes will not recur.
"A road trip of four weeks for any team is unacceptable, never mind a 6 week road trip where players stay away from home for 23 straight days."
When asked about the final game of the road trip, the Labour Day Classic in Regina Mr. Yost stated, "Who is the Rider QB this week? I mean really none of the QBs on their roster even measure up to that loser Marvin Graves. We'll go in there and show them how it's done. The players are home, they are going to relax and then get ready for an easy win, crucial to our playoff hopes."
Brad Lawryk owner of the Roughriders has yet to comment on Mr. Yost's diatribe, but was not saved from Ken's own acerbic tongue lashing when he said "Their owner? I'm sure he's a great guy but look at the staff he has. His webpage is still living in the past, when the Riders were a .500 team. That must put it back in 1989! And look at the team ownership history, they go from an esteemed citizen such as Ron Philipp, to some yahoo from B.C.'s hickville"
When Scott Taylor reminded Mr. Yost that he was born mere miles from Williams Lake B.C. in 100 Mile House, Ken responded "Look I had the sense to be out of their by the time I was 2, he still lives there by choice."
