Band Biography
It all started in July of 1997, when Jay and Charles, who were already in a band, met Owain. The three decided to start their own band. After writing 5 songs, they decided it was time to find a singer. A friend of theirs, Mike decided to try out. They liked his style, and the original band was formed. In September of the same year, Unemployed recorded a demo, containing 8 songs. After giving out copies to the people who put on local shows, they landed a show with Diesel Boy. Their first show went well, and the band was finally ready to do a new recording. In January of 1998, they recorded their self-titled tape. The response to this recording was incredible. But in order to keep up to all the other punk bands coming up in the area, they decided they needed a change. So Charles switched from drums to guitar, and the band welcomed its new drummer, Adam. This change added a new edge to the band. Within a couple of months, every single copy of the self-titled tape was sold. After forging on, playing numerous shows, the band was ready to record again. In November of 1998, Unemployed returned to Sound of One Hand Studios, to record the 7 song Opportunity "EP". 500 copies were released in December of 1998, and were all sold by mid 1999. In late December of 99, Jay announced to the band that he was leaving in order to pursue other interests. After playing a final show with Unemployed on New Year's Eve 2000, Jay departed from the band, leaving the four remaining members to ponder the future. There was considerable doubt as to whether or not Unemployed would stay together, and luckily, they did. Now, in March of 2000, the guys are preparing to record their first full length album, and getting ready to start touring on a regular basis. Look for the new cd sometime in May 2000, and keep an eye out for Unemployed in a city near you.
