What's going on???

November 30, 2000

Unfortunately, I regret to announce that Unemployed has officially broken up. The guys would like to thank Murielle for all the shows, Jeff for the help, all the bands they've played with. Mike is looking to start something new, and is looking for a guitarist, so email him if you're interested. Thanks to everyone who came out to shows and bought the shirts, cd's... etc. It's been fun, but it's time to move on.

September 12, 2000

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay in updates, but I moved to Toronto at the end of August to go to school, and haven't talked to the guys as often as normally, due to the fact they were on tour for the last week or so. Anyways, this is just a short update... so here we go.

The tour with Flashlight and Subb was a great success. Lots of new friends were made along the way. Thanks to all the promoters, bands, and most importantly, the kids who came out to the shows. There's an upcoming show... so check out the shows page for more info... later.

August 4th, 2000

Ok, Well, as you may or may not have noticed, most of the dates for the Flashlight tour have been removed. This is due to a problem with the booking, and therefore, Unemployed will not be doing all the dates previously mentioned. However, the dates in Ontario (at the end of August, and early September) are still tentative, so keep coming back for more info.

Myself, and all the guys in the band would like to welcome the new bassist, Steve. Steve's profile will be up soon (as soon as i get it, let's hope he doesn't take as long as the other guys did...) and we'll also be working on getting some pictures of him up on the page. Welcome aboard Steve.

Now, the new record is finally coming out!!! It will be available at Record Runner, and various other downtown Ottawa record stores starting this Monday, August 7th. It will run you up for 11.99$. 12 bucks, 13 tracks, that's what I call a good deal. The band will also have new t-shirts (sporting the Gary Coleman logo as seen on this page, and also on pins) available in the next couple weeks, so buy, buy, buy...

Finally, look for an article in XPress at the end of the month, for a feature on Unemployed. It will be around the time of the cd release party, so keep an eye out. There is no excuse for not getting it, it's free.

July 8th, 2000

Well, there is one big piece of news in the world of Unemployed. The band is now looking for a new bassist, because Owain has disappeared off the face of the earth. So, if you are interested in the position, you can contact Mike at m_shaikin@hotmail.com and give him your info, how long you've been playing, experience in bands... etc.

Other than that, Adam broke his hand, therefore, the shows in Cornwall w/ AAA and D4, as well as the show in Toronto with Flashlight and Belvedere have been cancelled. Luckily, he does not require a cast, but he is stuck in a sling for a while. However, the guys will be doing a tour with Flashlight and Subb during the month of August, so keep checking out the site, cause the dates will be posted once they are confirmed.

Last but not least, the CD will be out the last week of July, or the first week of August (for real this time).

June 19th, 2000

Hey everyone, it's been over a month since the last update, so a lot has happened. First of all, the reason there hasn't been an update in so long, is because my computer crashed, and I only got it back late last week. Anyways, enough about that, on with the news.

First, the cd. The design is all done, and if all went as planned, the stuff was sent off to the company who is making the cd's in mass quantities. This means that it should be out around the end of June (give or take a week or two). It sounds really, really good, and is by far the best thing the guys have ever put on record, so buy it when it comes out.

Also, in the last couple weeks, the guys have played a lot of shows. They played a short 3 show tour with Volcom's CKY a couple weeks ago, sandwiched in between a couple shows in Ottawa. The boys also made an appearance in Grenville last Friday. No shows are in the works for the next little bit, but by checking the shows page every week or so, (I usually link it right here, but I'm feeling lazy today) you can keep up to date on all of Unemployed's comings and goings. That's the news for now. Later.

May 14th, 2000

First of all, I would like to welcome you all to the new home of the Official Unemployed Webpage. The page should be going through some major changes in the upcoming weeks, so keep coming back. The reason we moved the page, is because the old address was long, and a pain in the ass to remember, as well as to tell people, so for practicality reasons, we just moved. Make sure to tell all your friends that the site has moved, or just tell them about the site.

Ok, Now, the news. The cd is done recording and mastering, and it sounds great! This is by far the best thing the guys have ever done, and all the hours of labor put into this record payed off. If you have already heard the other recordings, this will blow you away. The cd is 13 tracks of kick ass melodic punk rock. There are a couple songs from the Opportunity EP on it, as well as 3 of the 4 songs released in September (but don't be fooled, they sound different, and better in my opinion), as well as a short revival of a song off the self-titled tape which should amuse more than a few of you. In the next couple of weeks, the cd's will be printed and all that other crap... so look for an early summer release.

Last but not least, a short little note. Keep coming back to the site to check out upcoming shows. The guys are currently working out a possible tour with Toronto boys Flashlight for late July. Any more information concerning this tour will be posted as soon as it is confirmed.

April 23rd, 2000

Well.. it's been a while.. so I guess it's time for an update. Ok, first of all, the recording of the cd is done (woohoo!!!). The recording has been mastered, and there are still a few little creases that have to be ironed out, and then it will be done. Even as it is now, the cd sounds great... and once everything is fixed.. it will sound awesome! Be sure to pick it up when it comes out!!!

Now, the show in Cornwall. The show went pretty good, except for the fact that there were too many bands (6). Um, the guys played good, and did a good job of representing Ottawa along with other locals Seven Layers (who are getting even better every time I see them, if that's possible). The crowd was ok... although it took free Volcom shit to get most of them up front and moving. Other than that, we spend most of the night just sitting around, and watching some local band (who's name slips my mind (if anyone out there knows, please e-mail me their, and the other bands names so i can add them to the list of bands the guys have played with)) who had the best drummer any of us, Seven Layers, and probably anyone else there has ever seen. So all in all, it was a good show, and the guys are looking forward to going back sometime in the near future. That's it for now... later.

April 3rd, 2000

Ok, the recording of the cd is going good. Most of it is done. Mike still has some vocals to record, and Owain is going back to re-do some of his bass tracks, and then it will be all done, and onto the mixing and mastering. What is done so far sounds amazing! This is by far the best stuff yet!

There are 3 upcoming shows in the works for the next month, so go check out the Shows page for more details, and info on the shows.

March 25th, 2000

Well... first things first.. the show with The Ataris a couple weeks ago went really good. We all had a good time, and the guys played great!

Now, last Saturday and Sunday, the guys started to record their new record. The drums and guitars have been recorded, as well as 3 songs on bass. The rest will be done this upcoming week, with the final touches being put on the record next weekend. From what the guys have told me, the record sounds amazing, and will be the best recording to this date, so be sure to buy one when it's released.

March 5th, 2000

Well, it's been a while, so let's get down to business. First of all, as mentioned before, the boys are playing with The Ataris and Beefcake next weekend. Check out the shows page to get all the info.

The weekend of the 18th, the guys will be going into the studio to start recording their first full length record. It should be done by the end of March or early April.. and look for a release date sometime in May.

Last, but certainly not least, it looks like the cross-Canada tour is going to be postponed until a later date. However, stay on the lookout for a possible tour of southern-Ontario and parts of Quebec.

February 9th, 2000

Well... as you may have seen already, a whole bunch of new pictures have been put up, so go check 'em out.

As mentionned before, the band will be going into the studio to record a new record. The guys will be in the studio sometime in March to record 13-18 songs for their 3rd Official release, and 1st full length.

Unemployed will be opening up for the Ataris (Check the shows page for more info).

Last, but certainly not least, a cross-Canada tour is in the works for this upcoming June. The tour will be in support of The Eyeliners (Panic Button Records). The tour should hit most major cities, and possibly some smaller cities. More information will be available in the upcoming weeks, so keep coming back for the latest info. More big news to come.

January 19th, 2000

There has been a significantly important event involving Unemployed. A recent rumor concerning Jay's departure from Unemployed is true, and he is no longer a member of the band. However, the rumor of Charles' departure is false, and the band will continue to thrust forward as a 4 piece.

Unemployed should also return to the recording studio sometime during the months of February, or March for what should be a full-length cd (12-18 songs). Any more information on this subject will be posted when a recording date is set, and more information is available, so keep checking back to be up to date on the latest developments.

You will also notice that a link to MP3.com has been added to the links page. The most recent recording (the 4 tracks recorded in September that have until now only been available on tapes that Mike has been handing out at work, and shows) are now available to be downloaded, so go get 'em if you don't already have them, or even if you do, so you can send them to friends all over the place.

January 8th, 2000

Hey everyone. Not much is new, although the New Year's Eve show was pretty rad from what I've been told. If any of you were there, thanx for showing up, and to those who weren't, you missed a good show!

Now, I want to address a recent entry in the Guestbook. Someone stated that Jay and Charles were leaving the band, thus leaving Mike, Adam and Owain as the only remaining members of Unemployed. As of right now, this is only a rumor. If anything regarding this subject is confirmed, it will be posted "officially" on this page, by myself.

December 5th, 1999

Hey everyone... well... I'm back from touring, so here is the first update in a while, although it isn't much of an update. The only thing that I can think of right now is that the show in Kingston was totally kick ass! The guys had a great time, and even sold out of merch! I wish i was there!!! Anyways, there aren't any shows coming up... but I'll put any other important information up when it comes along. Oh, shit... before I forget, Unemployed is on the new Volcom Music compilation, alongside such bands as Pennywise and Strung Out among others. It's available at Top Of The World (I think), so check it out.
