Biography of Student Cantor Todd Kipnis






Student Cantor Todd Kipnis is originally from Massapequa, NY, and is married to Rebecca Dorwin-Kipnis, a geriatric social worker. He is a second year cantorial student at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College in vocal performance, and a Master of Music degree in opera from the State University of New York at Binghamton in conjunction with the Tri-Cities Opera. While in the Binghamton area, he was very active in the Jewish community there. He served as a cantorial soloist for four years at Temple Concord Reform Temple, and performed a variety of concerts for various Jewish functions in the area.

He is a graduate of the Tri-Cities Opera Resident Artist Training Program, where he performed numerous leading and supporting roles. He spent a summer as a studio artist with Central City Opera in Colorado and also performed as a guest artist with Lyric Opera of Cleveland. This past year he served as a substitute student cantor at Temple Emanuel in New Hyde Park for an extended period of time, where he taught B’nei Mitzvah students, and officiated as the cantor for Shabbat services and B’nei Mitzvah ceremonies. We at Union Temple are blessed to have Student Cantor Kipnis with us, for his glorious baritone voice and his gentle personality.
