How do I move a telephone
set on my Norstar Telephone System:
Very important: When
moving a phone or swapping the locations of phones without losing programming
information, it is necessary to activate AUTO SET RELOCATION, make the
changes and then deactive AUTO SET RELOCATION.
A. To activate AUTOMATIC SET RELOCATION:
- Press
FEATURE **266344 (config).
- The
display will show PASSWORD. Enter the passworld. The default password
is also 266344 (config)
- The
LCD will then read A. Configuration
- Press
SHOW
- Press
the NEXT softkey three times until you get to4. Miscellaneous
- Press
SHOW
- Press
the NEXT softkey and scroll through until you reach Set relocation:
N
- Simply
change the N to Y
- Press
RLS key. Your phone is now ready to be moved.
B.
To move the phone(s) follow these instructions:
- Go
to the telephone to be moved and unplug it at the telephone.
- Move
the telephone to the new location and plug it in
- It
will flash for a few seconds and then reset itself To move two phones,
follow the same procedure except follow the rule - first unplugged,
first plugged in. NEVER MOVE MORE THAN TWO TELEPHONES AT ONE TIME! YOU
WILL CONFUSE THE SYSTEM AND RISK LOSING PROGRAMMING!
C.

How
do I call forward a telephone on no answer or busy (usually to voice mail)
on my Norstar Telephone System?
This feature lets you redirect an incoming call
to another telephone on your Norstar system when the call is not answered
at your Norstar telephone and your phone is busy. Note, however, that
Line Redirection will take precedence over this setting.
Feature explained: If you assign another telephone
to receive your calls, you can also assign the number of times that the
incoming call will ring before the call is forwarded (the Call Forward
No Answer delay) or have it automatically forwarded without any rings
if you are on the phone. To estimate the delay time in seconds, multiply
the number of rings by six.
Programming Call Forward
To activate this, simply follow the instructions
below:
- Press
FEATURE **266344 (config)

The display will show PASSWORD. Enter 266344 config.
- The display will show A. Configuration
- Press NEXT
- The display will show
B. General Adminstration
- Press SHOW
- Press NEXT until you get to
5. Capabilities
- Press SHOW
- Press NEXT until you see Set
Abilities (or on older systems until you see Forward No Answer).
- Press SHOW at Set Abilities
then NEXT until you the display shows Forward No Answer or Forward On
Busy, choosing the one you wish to change.
- Press SHOW
- Sets are normally programmed
to forward to the VOICE MAIL SYSTEM'S extension number.
- For call forward no answer,
press NEXT to program the number of rings before calls are forwarded
to the assigned extension.
- Press RLS to exit and save

How
do I program a name for a telephone on a Norstar Telephone System?
Norstar allows you to assign names to Norstar telephones.
During a Norstar call, the name appears on each Norstar telephone's display
instead of the internal telephone number of the caller.
- Press
Feature * * 23646 (config).
- Enter
the password. Default is 23646 (admin).
- Press NEXT until the display
shows 2. Names
- Press SHOW. Set Names appears
for programming telephone names or press NEXT then SHOW. "Line Names"
appear for programming line names.
- Begin with Set Names.
- Press SHOW. "Show set:__ appears.
- Enter the internal number
of the telephone or press NEXT for the name of the telephone with the
first extension. 221: JOHN appears, for example, if the name John is
already assigned; or, 221: 221 appears if a name has not yet been assigned.
- Press CHANGE. A cursor appears,
and the name disappears from the display.
- Enter the first character
of the name by pressing the appropriate dial pad button one, two, three,
or four times. Press "-->" to move the cursor to the next position.
Continue entering all of the required characters (up to seven characters)
for the name.
- When you're finished,
press RLS.
How do I enter Administration programming
mode on my Norstar Phone System?
Important: If you
are not familiar with the HEADING, SHOW, BACK and NEXT buttons, please
get a Norstar Programming Overlay and place on your phone.
- Press FEATURE * *23646 (admin).
- The display will show Password. Enter the Administration
password from the dial pad. (The default password is 23646 (admin)
- If the password is correct, 1. Sys speed dial
appears, and three triangular indicators appear on the vertical display
next to the rows of buttons.
- If the password is incorrect, the display does
not change. Check the password. Press RETRY and enter the password.
- Place the Norstar Programming Overlay over
the buttons pointed to by the indicators and proceed with programming.
Exiting Administration
- Press RLS. End of Session appears.
How
do I program system speed dial numbers on my Norstar Telephone System?
System Speed Dial allows you to program up to
70 telephone numbers that can be dialed using a two-digit code (01 to
70) from any Norstar telephone.
To begin System Speed Dial programming:
- Press FEATURE **23646 (admin).
- The display will show Password. Enter the Administration
password from the dial pad. (The default password is 23646 (admin)
- Display will show Speed Dial #.
- Select
the speed dial code you want to program. Press NEXT until the display
shows the correct code, or enter the two-digit speed dial code (from
01 to 70) on the dial pad.
- Speed
dial #: XX appears.
- Press
SHOW. No number stored appears if no number was previous assigned or
5552466, for example, appears if a number was previously programmed.
VIEW-> and <-VIEW appear if the number is longer than 16 digits
- Press
CHANGE. "# XX: ___" appears
- Enter
the new telephone number from the dial pad (maximum of 24 digits), including
all digits such as an initial 9 or an area code that must be detailed
to call the number manually. 99975823__ appears, for example. If the
number is more than 16 digits long, the left-most digits disappear from
the display as you continue to enter the System Speed Dial number
- Press
the BKSP display button if required to backspace the cursor
- Press
OK when the number has been entered.
- Press Back to program another System Speed
Dial number or press NEXT and the display shows USE PRIME LINE. This
setting allows you to specify the external line that will be used for
a System Speed Dial number. The options are the Prime line (the default),
and external line, or a line pool.
- Begin with "Use prime line" (the default) or
Use line: 002, for example, if a line is already assigned or Pool code:
042, for example, if a Line Pool access code is already assigned.
- If you wish to change the setting, press CHNG
until the required setting appears.
- If you have chosen a line number or a Line
Pool access code, enter the digits from the dial pad. A Line Pool access
code can be from one to four digits long. You can only use line pools
that are allowed from your extension.
- Press
NEXT when the digits have all been entered, to program Display Digit.
- Press
CHNG either Y (Yes) or N (No).
- Press NEXT until it displays Name - Display
- Press SHOW
- Press CHNG and enter in the "name" of the new
speed dial number.
- Press RLS to end programming session

Norstar Telephone System?
- Press FEATURE * *23646 (admin)
- Enter Admin. Password. Default password is
(23646.
- Press NEXT twice.
- Press SHOW.
- Press CHANGE and then enter the correct hour
using the dialpad. Enter the digit(s) for the hour in 12 or 24 hour
format.
- Press NEXT then CHANGE to change minutes
- Enter the digit(s) for the minutes.
- Press NEXT
- If AM or PM appears and you wish to change
item, Press CHANGE then NEXT
- Date will appear. If you wish to change, press
CHANGE.
- Year appears. Press CHANGE to program the year
or press NEXT to skip.
- Month appears. Press CHANGE to program the
month or press NEXT to skip.
- Day appears. Press CHANGE to program the day
or press NEXT to skip.
- Press HEADING until you return to desired programming
heading.
- Press RLS to end programming. End of Session
appears.

- Press RLS.
- For call forward on busy, after step 4, Press
SHOW, NEXT, NEXT and the display will show fwd on busy..
- Press CHANGE to program the extension number
for the forward on busy.
- Press RLS.
How do I program a name for a telephone
on a Norstar Telephone System?
Norstar allows you to assign
names to Norstar telephones. During a Norstar call, the name appears on

of the telephone or press NEXT for the name assigned to the first extension.

How
do I test a telephone on a Norstar Telephone System to confirm that it
is functioning properly?
- Press
Feature 805
- Press
TEST or HOLD and the system will test the display
- The
display will show Contrast Level __. Adjust the display UP or DOWN and
then press OK to proceed.
- All
of the display button indicators should show dark. Press any key to
end this test.
- The
display will show Button test. Press TEST and the display will show
Press any button. Proceed to push each button on the phone. Be sure
to note to whether the button label matches what is programmed on the
button.
- Press
the RLS key and then any other button and you'll be returned to the
TEST menu.
- Press
NEXT and the display will show Handset test.
- Press
TEST and the display will show Lift Handset. When you lift the handset
the display will show Generating Tone. You should be able to hear the
tone through the handset.
- Upon
completion of this test, press OK and replace the handset.
- Press
NEXT and the display will show Speaker test. Press TEST and a tone will
be emitted through the speaker until you press OK.
- Press
NEXT and the display will read Power test
- Press
TEST and all of the LCD windows will go dark and the phone will ring
loudly.
- Press
OK to end power test.
- Press
RLS to end testing session.

- You will see SP followed by a sequence of numbers
and letters. This is your system version.
- Press RLS to end programming. "End of Session"
appears.

number was previous assigned or 5552466, for example, appears if a number
was previously programmed. VIEW-> and <-VIEW appear if the number is
longer than 16 digits

setting allows you to specify the external line that will be used for
a System Speed Dial number. The options are the Prime line (the default),
and external line, or a line pool.

Use line: 002, for example, if a line is already assigned or Pool code:
042, for example, if a Line Pool access code is already assigned.
- If you wish to change the setting, press CHNG
until the required setting appears.
- If you have chosen a line number or a Line
Pool access code, enter the digits from the dial pad. A Line Pool access
code can be from one to four digits long. You can only use line pools
that are allowed from your extension.
- Press NEXT when the digits have all been entered,
to program Display Digit.

How do I do an orderly shutdown of my
Norstar Voice Mail or Applications Module?
The Norstar Applications Module
(NAM) is the platform used for Norstar Voice Mail, Fax mail and ACD. There
are three different options in shutting down the NAM:
- GRACEFUL: The graceful option allows an application
to terminate all existing calls before shutting down.
- QUICK: The quick option allows 45 seconds for
an application to terminate before shutdown.
- IMMEDIATE: The immediate option allows 15 seconds.
PROCEDURE:
- Press the Feature key, and enter 915 on the
telephone dialpad.
- Enter the Access Password: default is 2223772
(ACCESS2).
- Press the softkey NEXT.
- Press the softkey SHOW.
- Press softkey GRACE or NEXT or IMMEDIATE.
- Unplug the unit for 30 seconds, and plug back
in.
How do I reset the Operator Status password

Programming
(For
Startalk Flash v1.7and higher, and NAM v3.0and higher)
Programming
can be done from any phone that has 3 keys in the display.
To add new
mailboxes
1.
To
get into Programming Press FEATURE 983. The display will read:
“log:”, then type your system manager mailbox number and 0000
then OK. The System
Manager mailbox number is 12 if you have 2 digit extensions, 102
if you have 3 digit extensions, and 1002 if you have 4 digit
extensions. (Ex: my ext is 239 so I would do Feature 983 then type 1020000
then ok).
2.
The
display will read: “Admin”. Press MBOX.
3.
The
display will read: “Mailbox Admin”.
Press ADD.
4.
The
display will read: “Mbox:”. Type
in the mailbox you want to add.
5.
The
display will read: “Subscriber” Press OK. (This step may not be
there)
6.
The
display will read: “Ext:”. Type
in the Ext for that mailbox (Almost always the same as mailbox #).
If it is a guest mailbox (someone who doesn’t have a phone) press
QUIT.
7.
The
display will read: “Service class:”.
Enter in class of service 7.
8.
The
display will read: “Name:”. Enter the name you want. To enter a letter press the number key that has that letter
on it. Press it twice for the
second letter on the key, and three times for the third. Use the # key to
go to the next space. To make
a comma, press the # key
twice.(ex: If I wanted an ‘n’, I would press the 6
key twice). When you are done
press OK.
9.
The
display will read “Directory?”. Press
YES.
10.
The
display will read: “Msg waiting?”.
Press YES.
11.
The
display will read “Outdial”. Press
POOL. Then it will ask
for the Pool #, enter in 1.
Press OK. Then
keep pressing OK until the display reads “Mailbox Admin”
12.
Press
Rls.
13.
Let
the user know their password is 0000.
NORSTAR WILL NOT
RECONIZE THE MAILBOX UNTIL IT HAS BEEN INITIALIZED. (The user has to enter
a new password and record their name for the directory)
To reset a
mailbox password

The
display will read: “Admin”. Press

3.
The
display will read: “Mailbox Admin”.

To change a
mailbox name

the mailbox # of the user.

display will read: “Password”. Press
NEXT until the display reads “Name:”

display will read the current user’s name.
Press CHNG.

You
may then enter in the name of the user. To enter a letter, press the
number key that has that letter on it.
Press it twice for the second letter on the key, and three times
for the third. Use the #
key to go to the next space. To

To Delete a
mailbox
1.

must set up for voice mail box before you can receive messages. To do that:

the Voice Mail button.
- Type
in 0000 as your password.
Then press the button right under OK.
- Type
in a new password. It
must be between 4 to 8 digits and can’t start with zero.
- It
will prompt you to re-enter password to verify.
Then press OK.
- It
will prompt you to record your name for the company directory. Pick up the hand set and record after beep. (ex:
“John Doe”). Don’t
put down the handset yet.
- To
accept recording press OK.
