On 27 November 2000, the UN Singers performed at the Lincoln Center, Stanley Kaplan Penthouse, for the Gala Reception to launch the 2001 International Year of Volunteers. Here, some of the singers are seen with the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, and his wife Nane.
In 1971, in the General Assembly Hall, as part of the UN's twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations, the United Nations Singers, under the direction of the late Pablo Casals, presented the premiere performance of Hymn to the United Nations, his musical composition set to the words of British/American poet W. H. Auden.
The United Nations Singers performed for the Million Dollar Round Table from the stage at Radio City Music Hall during the 1981 annual meeting.
In 1982, the Singers travelled to Jamaica and made appearances in Kingston and Mandeville to benefit the Jamaica Cancer Society. The appreciative audiences were headed in Kingston by H. E. the Governor-General, the Most Hon. Sir Florizel Glasspole and Lady Glasspole, and in Mandeville, by Mayor Cecil C. Charlton.
The United Nations Singers were the guests of the Governor-General of Jamaica at his residence.
In 1983, on Easter Sunday, the Singers returned to Radio City Music Hall to perform at a sunrise Easter Service, the 64th annual event sponsored by the Council of Churches of NYC. Several thousand people ignored the torrential rain outside and listened to religious songs and readings.
Dag Hammarskjöld, always keenly interested in the Singers, once asked them to memorize the Swedish folksong Glädjens Blomster, roughly translated as "Gladly the flowers bloom".
