Hall of Fame
As voted by the players, the following players have had their jersey numbers retired.
Keith Weissman #12, Class of 1996
In the Fall of 1994, undergraduate student Keith Weissman
initiated a new hockey program at the University of Pennsylvania - our Roller Hockey Club.
The original intention was to start a Roller Hockey Club to supplement
the Men’s Ice Hockey Club, giving all interested men at the University
an opportunity to participate in hockey. After successful recruiting
efforts at the inline skating club, the men’s ice hockey club tryouts,
and word of mouth, a team of 20+ players had been assembled.
By the end of the Spring 1995 semester,
Keith and his new team had proven themselves to the University.
In less than a year, the club had become fully recognized as an
organized club and had gained financial assistance for some expenses
from the University of Pennsylvania Student Activity Council!
Bill Lear #92, Class of 1998
In the Spring of 1996, Bill took over Keith's position as President of the Club.
For the next year, he organized the club's competition at the local Men's league in
Northeast Philly. Under his leadership, club interest grew and spawned enough members
to split the team into two squads. Bill led the "A" team as their Captain for two years,
and competed with the team for all of his four years at Penn.
Brendan Brennan #44, Class of 1999
By unanimous vote in late 1999, the club voted to retire #44 to honor Brendan's
achievements in bringing the club from a men's league team to an intercollegiate competitor.
Brendan was a founder of the Eastern Collegiate Roller
Hockey Association (ECRHA) that organized for the first time intercollegiate competition
from New York to Virginia down the Atlantic coast. He also worked with teammate Dan Gabbay
(Class of 2000) to organize the first ever collegiate roller hockey tournament in Philadelphia,
as well as the first local area league, the PCRHL (Philadelphia Collegiate Roller Hockey League).
Brendan served as Club VP for one year, and President for another.
He wore #44 during each of his four years at Penn, and served as team Captain for three of those years.
