The Third Season –1996/1997 In the Fall of 1996, the Men’s Roller Hockey Club of the University of Pennsylvania saw interest in the club reach new levels. To ensure adequate playing time for all club members, the club was split into two teams. Bill Lear took control of the main "A" team, and sophomore Brendan Brennan took charge of the new "B" team. The two teams got several chances throughout the year to go head-to-head. The "A" team was triumphant in the Fall of 1996, but the Spring of 1997 found a much improved "B" team rookies defeating the "A" team veterans. On May 23 & 24, 1997, the Roller Hockey Club hosted an All-Penn roller hockey tournament on the cement surface of the melted Class of ’23 Ice Rink. The two roller squads invited the Men’s Ice Hockey Club and a team of players who played pickup-roller at the Sheraton parking lot. Competition was fierce as the teams battled it out for bragging rights. When the dust cleared, the Penn Roller "A" team was victorious! Round One: Penn Roller A 6
