February
FEB 9 Monday
Dear Yraid,
Ok. Not that short. To tell
you the truth Yraid, I don't know how to write... to you. Am I supposed to
narrate my day's stories? Obviously I can't bare my soul because just
about anybody can read this. I guess I'll stick to the narrative part. As
we both know, there's a thin line between writing down your thoughts and
baring your inner self... Monday. The main activity for the day -- the
first day of the Philosophy Week -- is our discussion with Labyrinth. Esa
read my papers on meditation and soul consciousness; I
discussed them piecemeal fashion. Rutchel from the other org reported on
"genetic privacy"; the KAPITAS kids participated in the Question &
Answer part. Basically that's what happened. Before I forget, I gave
(volunteered) my Philo Dictionary to the three freshies taking up Spec
Thought under Ate Anika for it to act as reference on their relatively
difficult take-home exam. I also finalized the agreement with Matilda
through Ate Jovi about their performance on the culminating night this
Friday.
FEB 10 Tuesday
Dear Yraid,
Same class. Same seatmates (my blockmates Jema & Norman).
Same, no wait, she forgot the maps. Bwahahaha. I'm so sad. Huh? In the
afternoon, I was absent in our Journ 109 mainly because of
the symposium on "Law & Ethics" by our very own department chairperson
Dr. Emmanuel Q. Fernando. His speech was good but I had to leave at 2
o'clock for the Sinag Board of Judges meeting at PH109. There were three
males wearing glasses and Dr. Viveca Hernandez was there -- already talking
about the sked for the editor-in-chief application for the college
publication; clearly I was late. We talked about the qualifications and
stuff. I made a few suggestions. Ate Flora and another lady from PH113
gave us merienda and coffee, for which I didn't take any. At past 3
o'clock we wrapped up. I came back to PH400 for the sympo. Unfortunately
his talk was yet to be over. Luckily I was able to ask a question ("Sir,
you mentioned about 'distancing' and 'objectivity' -- are laws then
'value-free', maybe in the sense that scientific laws are value-free?").
Then after that, the usual: tambay. Ate Jovi was there too and she even
made hulog to Ricky's box. I watched Fast Lane at 9 o'clock. What can I
say... it's cool, really cool.
FEB 11 Wednesday
Dear Yraid,
The sportsfest was
postponed, meaning I was at the house all day. Spending quality time with
Dollar, perhaps. On the evening I delivered the teasers that I made for
the Philo Week (parodied 'Ito ang beat' lyrics c/o Lester) to Janice, who
was with her *Archie*, and MikeLo & McRhon. Fairster Portia was on at
the UP UnFair and I went there with a few friends from Taekwondo.
We found it a bit boring. There were lesser booths and lesser people
compared to last year. And the bands I heard were, shall I continue, not
that rockin'. For one the UPIS kids need a little more practice than "Go,
go Johnny go, go! Go go go!" Still I hoped the guy in the audience didn't
say P.I., at least. [Thanks OJ for the lollipop.] Rea and I patiently
waited but Parokya ni Edgar didn't play until 2:30. We were on our homes already
sleeping by that time.
FEB 12 Thursday
Dear Yraid,
As you may have seen, I don't have an MTh class. That's
due to my Thesis under Sir deCa which settled for an email correspondence.
[I want to thank Dr. Leonardo de Castro for the cd of our moving pictures
(taken from KAPITAS' sympo last month).] I came to school at 1pm to take
care of the film-viewing of "The Last Temptation of Christ", although it
started 20min late. The discussion following that was facilitated by Ricky
and me. Some of the audience stayed and took part in it, together with
members of PhiloSoc and the KAPITAS kids. It was, in fact, an interesting
discussion. When I think about it, Christ is better that way. The
more human He is, the less skeptical I'll get -- being the agnostic that I am.
At 5:30 the Philo Core Group had a meeting regarding the food for
tomorrow, with Jay-Jay of DLSU playing the guitar at the background.
FEB 13 Friday
Dear Yraid,
Ma'am was absent. I went to PH 400 instead to participate in
PhiloSoc's discussion. Most of the ones there were KAPITAS kids. The
discussant was not a philo major but he's from PhiloSoc. We talked about
the 'self'. My input in the discussion circulated around the topic of
'existence over essence'. The kids were quite relaxed in the discussion.
In the afternoon Aya and I helped Weng cook adobo; um, it's more
like, Aya sliced (and cried over) onions, and I squeezed (and bled over) lemons. But Aya and I
bought the pork at KNL anyway; the men there -- "Anong baboy,
buhay o patay?" -- even went to the butcher shop sa kanto just to chop off
the pig/s' meat. Later at 4:00 I ran some errands for Dollar's bday
celebration (read: I went to Jollibee & McDo to buy us some merienda).
I was back at peyups before 6:00 with the things for the culminating
activity which was held from 7:25-9:25. I acted as table manager in the
so-called party, hehe (I dis/organized the food =). I gave a mini-speech
about the recently concluded Philo Week and had fun while I did; in the
end I said, "Sana dumami pa ang philo orgs. Para masaya." After the party
Aya, Jomar, and I brought back the tables, etc, to the council office. Aya
even saw a 'ghost' along the way. She said it looked like a female student
walking at the AS corridor wearing ordinary white sleeveless shirt and
maong pants. She also said that when we called her and she turned her
head, when she looked back at the figure it was gone. Friday the 13th it
is. But we're philo majors. No superstitions. Aya even made a story about the
'ghost', which went like this: the girl had an appointment with a guy and
they were supposed to have sex . End of story.
FEB 14 Saturday
Dear Yraid,
So
little time so much to do. I need to start on my (thesis) sentence
outline. But I wallowed on the computer... such a temptation. And I ate
and ate and ate. Happy Valentine's to my stomach. Damn it, the Net was so
slow this evening. Busy lines eh? Pirated cd, spam, boring tv shows,
whatever. Lame night.
FEB 15 Sunday
Dear Yraid,
I went to church. And ate and ate and ate again. I
hate staying at the house on weekends. I'm surely gonna put on some
pounds. But it's fun, especially if your dog's appetite is huge enough to
make yours big too. Kasangga sa kainan, hehe. Siesta pagkatapos, hehe.
Then came the bad news -- my 4th year high school adviser is dead. It was
due to her lung cancer. When we visited her some time last summer vacation
she looked okay even if she was already sick. Now she's gone. I'm coming home this
Wednesday to pay my respects. I already contacted my old
classmates/friends.
