History of Hang Gliding & Paragliding

[ stailP.jpg ]

Martin Orr built and flew two Swallowtail-type hang gliders in 1975-6, the first swallowtails in the Wessex Club. Like many early hang glider pilots, nowadays Martin flies a paraglider.

The lanky leading edges were braced by deflexors -- a cable ran from each wing tip to the nose, via a post protruding from the cross spar / leading edge junction. (You might just make out the starboard deflexor cable in this digitised photo of a painting -- based on a magazine print of a photo.)
