Kids, Sarah said to herself in the evening, when she found a firey's hand under her pillow and heard giggling from somewhere. She threw it out of the window. That day she had realized that the goblins really were kids. They were all very happy when Jareth returned. The king brought them gifts from his journey - mostly toys. He played a game of football - or something similar - with the boy goblins in the throne room, he praised girls' clothes. Sarah tried not to let him see her again. She was hidden in the corner and only watched everybody laughing. She was amazed with Jareth's behavior to them all. And whatever he said, everybody was thrilled to do. Not because he was their king, but because they loved him. It was perfectly clear. The throne room was a mess, and Sarah was one of the girls to clean it. She thought an earthquake would be more merciful to the castle, but she was happy she had something to do. The girls kept talking about Jareth, the air was full of their chatting and twittering. Sarah felt strange. So in the end she was with him... but in a different way. Jareth must never know her identity. Hopefully it won't be difficult.
Unfortunately she met Jareth the next day again. With a smile, he asked her how she liked the castle. Sarah forced herself to say several words before running away. Later she realized it looked like she was frightened to death. But, to tell the truth, she was ashamed to death.
For several days she succeeded in not meeting him. But one day when she was in the cellars, she suddenly realized he was there too. She tried to sneak away, running around several dark corners, but still she heard his footsteps too close behind her. She pressed herself into the wall in one deep black corner, hoping he would pass and not notice her. Then the wall disappeared and Sarah was falling into darkness. |
