While she was falling, Sarah realized that she was very glad that she was a goblin. Such fall couldn't harm her at all. Even if she fell down from a fifth floor... Suddenly Sarah realized that she had accidentally opened a secret passage. She stood and after several minutes she found, how to turn the secret panel back. She was back in the lit main corridor. The danger - Jareth - had disappeared in the meantime. Upon returning, she started asking older and more experienced goblins, but nobody knew about the secret passage. Sarah was excited. Had she found something new? As soon as she had a chance, she armed herself with a lamp, cords and pieces of chalk and started to explore. So, there was another labyrinth under the castle and labyrinth, this time a really underground one. And it seemed that nobody knew about it. Sarah spent hours wandering its dark streets. She didn't find anything very interesting - yes, several times she almost fell into a deep chasm, several times she couldn't continue because the way was blocked by fallen stones, and several times she got tangled into an enormous old web, full of dust. She found rusty armor and once she was frightened by a large rat. She came back to the castle very tired and very unsatisfied. She had expected something more. She decided to go back there once more. The next day one of the goblins stopped her. "His majesty asked about you," he said, thrilled. "I've got a message." Sarah opened her eyes wide. "What message?" "He says you take care, where you're going. It's dangerous." Sarah got frightened. So Jareth knew where she was. But... why was it so dangerous? She had a lamp, nothing attacked her, her only possible problem would be loosing her way, but she made some marks... even if she got lost, she couldn't wander those corridors forever. Goblins didn't suffer from lack of water like human did. So where was that real danger? For a while she thought of giving her research up, but then she got a completely different idea. She should find out exactly WHAT was so dangerous. When she came back from her next journey, another goblin was waiting for her and escorted her to the throne room. Jareth was sitting there, waiting for her. "I sent you a message, little one. Why didn't you obey my command?" "Your majesty," Sarah stuttered, "I... I was..." "It seems to me that you're bored. I guess some little work won't harm you," Jareth said. "You know the Escher room?" Sarah nodded. "Take a bucketful of water. You can start right now." "Doing what?" "Wiping the stairs, of course." |
