How I got Here

The summer before Freshman year (1983) I weighed 125 lbs.  By the time school started, due to nerves of starting a new school, I was down to 105.  For the most part my first 2yrs of high school I maintained 105-115 lbs.  Looking back I believe I was able to maintain that weight because I would walk to and from school a total of 2 miles a day.  Honestly, I never have had a problem of OVER eating.  But, what I would eat wouldn't be the most healthiest foods (i.e. hamburgers, chips etc.)  Anyways, I always seemed to loose 5-10 lbs during the summer, because of a Park group that I was a member of Freshman and Sophomore years, playing basketball, softball, kickball etc.

I realize now, once I got my license, my daily walking ended.  It was this period of time that the 10-15 lbs that I would gain during the school year, started to become harder and harder to loose.

Once,  Nancy and I, graduated High School I started Cosmetology School and went up to 140 lbs.  We both joined NutriSystem.  Of course we both lost weight, but once I reached goal I quit the program.  Sure the weight stayed off, but only for 2 years.  This was the beginning of my yo-yo dieting.

Up until now I have maintained 130 - 140 lbs.  Five years ago I was diagnosed with Epstein-Bar and kept loosing weight, I got down to 120 lbs.  Once I started recovering, my weight came back to130 lbs. Now, I was at 130 and wanted to loose 15 lbs (be at my high school weight) and went on Phen-Phen.  What a miracle drug!!!  Sure I lost the weight, well I only got to 120 lbs because sooo many people were going on it that the insurance company refused to cover it.  But, that drug made me forgetful and moody, I was an emotional mess.

Then 2 years ago I started taking antidepressants, and that's when the weight just started to pack on. Again, not so much because I ate too much but you have zero energy when taking that type of medication - that all I wanted to do was sleep.  I have been off of them for a year.  A year ago at 160 I started
Weight Watchers and lost 10 lbs in 2 months.  Then I hit a plateau and went 3 weeks; gaining 1 lb, loosing 1 lb getting nowhere.........
so I gave up.

And that brings us to where I am now --- I've gained that 10 lbs back, of course.  I'm ready to be serious and now I'm trying again.  I am tried of carrying aroung this extra weight - It's uncomfortable.

I know there are some of you out there that might be thinking "Gees, I wish I
only had 30 lbs to loose."  But, understand it's just as hard to loose 30 lbs as 100 lbs.  I've gone 31 years with bad eating / excercise habits. The battle is long term change, NOT the weight loss itself.
