What´s the URO?

The URO, Int. DX Group was founded in Oviedo (Principality of Asturias - Spain), on the 1st day of January 1986, with the intention of contacting a number of friends - aficionados of the C.B., and was also committed to the protection of Nature, they wanted people to know of the existence of a fantastic and wonderful animal of the Iberian fauna the URO... gallo(in English Capercaillie), from which they took the name of the Group. URO... gallo, they are only the first three letters of the name of our emblem and have no other meaning. The URO… gallo was in danger of extinction in the area and the Group, with their modest abilities, decided to try to save some of the capercailyes that were still alive. In this task they were successful and with that aim completed they were already satisfied. However with the passing of the time, and when you begin to realise the spirit that encouraged them, there were growing the beginnings of cohesion, at first local, then regional, later national and finally international, like the Group and their commitment with the defense of the Nature and the courtesy, chivalry and seriousness that it characterizes their membership surpassed the frontiers of Spain with the inclusion of countless friends - distributed all over the world - that wanted, also, to commit in this fantastic work. At the present time we confirm the URO Group has about one thousand two hundred (1.200) members, distributed over all the continents of the World.

There is no doubt that this fills us with pride, although we want to make a comment on this point: We do not worry about the total number of members that we can reach. Our priority is not the quantity, it is THE QUALITY, whuch we request of all those interested in joining this Group of friends. That they possess the same aims and spirit as those who started the group have. Here it is not asked that they are some incredible operators with many confirmed divisions, not that they possess the best equipment or the most potent station, only that they are part of the team, that they cheer up and unite people to us, with the certainty that they will be welcomed. If this is not their way, our advice is that they register with any other of the numerous existing Groups, where they will also be received as they deserve.

Besides the commitment that we have towards Nature, we also have it towards the C.B., and to prove it has enough say the Group was the founder member of AUROCH, which is the Asturian and Spanish Federation of C.B. Organisations, brought together to fight for the recovery of the rights of C.B. operators in general. From the moment of its foundation, without caring if they were members or non members of some of the Groups integrated in the organisation, recommending its aims to some of them, trying to make them aware that THE UNION MAKES THE FORCE, and that only by being united will we be able to defend the acquired rights and to continue with the effort of getting the total recognition of our hobby: " THE C.B".

About the activities of the Group, I can advise you that every year the URO Contest is carried out that results in the title of Champion of D.X. C.B. of the Principality of Asturias, with numerous important gifts. Also carried out are all those DX expeditions that the different members - of any country - want to organise, confirming the contacts with SPECIAL QSL. During the different seasons of the year there will be made, and continue to be made, a series of chats on the topics that are we supporting C.B. and NATURE, as well as awareness days in schools, with the purpose of bringing the concerns from our members to the scholars, with the certainty that on them the future of our aims depend.
