Other Areas

[Planet Earth seen from space]

USI has heard of statehood movements or advocacy in media of statehood for, among other places, South Africa, New Caledonia, Sardinia, Latvia, and Guam. We do not, however, know if there are active organizations in those places working for such goals, nor do we have email nor snailmail addresses for any such organizations, websites, or individuals.

USI believes fervently that federal union of progressive peoples under the Constitution of the United States is the best hope for the eradication of poverty and social inequities worldwide, and we encourage individuals and organizations concerned with social justice to form new statehood organizations for their areas.

We may have concrete suggestions as to how to proceed, step by step. And we can list new organizations as new Members or Observers of USI on this website, as might give them a "leg up" in publicizing their work to the world at large.

USI hopes in time to become "Statehood Central" — the center for all statehood-oriented activity worldwide — the one place journalists, politicians, and their staff look to find what's happening in the statehood universe.

So if you are already a statehood organization or have a statehood-themed website, contact us and join USI. There is no financial commitment whatsoever. This is a free service of voluntary organizations concerned about the public good. We are not out to make money, and we keep expenses to a minimum. That is why we have created a website on a free service. Please forgive the banner ads: they are the price of 'free' speech. We wouldn't turn away monetary contributions to help with our work, mind you, but we're not in this to make money.

We also invite organizations and websites that promote causes that might, if successful, move one area or other toward statehood, to be listed on our site as "Observers".

For example, there are separatist movements in various parts of Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, and Western Canada more generally, as well as Quebec). Though their program does not presently call for statehood for their province or region, the separation of any part of Canada might impel some or all of the rest to petition Congress for statehood. In time, an independent "Republic of Alberta" or "République du Québec" might decide that it was unhappy not with being part of a larger federal union in general, but only with being part of Canadian Confederation in particular, then apply for statehood in the U.S. Therefore we invite such movements to become Observers in USI, whereupon we would place links on our site to their webpages, so people interested in the full range of issues that might impact the borders of the United States can find such organizations easily, even if it never occurred to them that there might actually exist an organization to promote independence for Alberta or British Columbia.

Similarly, organizations working on bringing various now-separate countries together — such as the nations of South America — might make plain to USI's visitors that there are lots of people all over the world who believe that the fewer countries there are, the safer and more secure we all will be.

Polls

USI has a number of Internet opinion polls you may want to vote in (at our British, Canadian, Philippine, and Puerto Rican pages). In addition, one of our Charter Members, the Expansionist Party of the United States, has its own "End-Goal Poll" that asks how large the United States should ultimately be. If you enjoy these polls, please tell your internationally-minded friends about them.
