A Piece of Cake For GI Brides

More than 350 relatives of brides of former U.S. and Canadian Service mean are coming from the Home Counties and London to a celebration at Rotherhithe next Friday.
It will mark the first birthday of the Bermondsey and district branch of the U.S. and Canadian Brides Association.
Mr. Robert Mellish, Rotherhithe MP, will cut birthday cakes and the pieces will be sent to the overseas brides linked with the branch.
Mrs. R. E. Hand, of Lockwood street, Bermondsey, secretary of the Bermondsey branch said: “We are hoping to make up a party of about 50 mothers to go to America early next year. I shall be visiting my daughter, Mrs. Jean Schade, in New Jersey.”
The party will be going in the Queen Mary.
