Mother Get £35 For U.S. Visit
Star Report
London mothers will be able to visit their war-bride daughters in the U.S. and Canada after all.
They feared that because of the economic situation they would not be able to obtain the £35 allowance granted last year.
An Appeal was made to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Butler, by the Bermondsey branch of the U.S. and Canadian Brides’ Parents Association.
Now Sir Arthur Salter, Minister for Economic Affairs, has told them that the arrangements will stand.
“If full information is given and the intending visitor qualities for the allowance there should be no difficulty,” he said.
The Bermondsey branch have held socials and other events to help raise funds to enable some members to leave for New York next month.
