Some had waited since Monday for the delayed arrival of the vessel, the United Press reported.

English wives on the Zebulon B. Vance told the International News Service that the ship was filthy, the food bad and the Army nurses in different and the passengers with dysentery.

Mrs. John Cox of Manchester en route to join her husband in Vancouver, Washington said young mothers “were treated like cattle.”

Note: The U.S.A.T. Zebulon B. Vance left Southampton, England on Feb. 8, 1946 and arrived in New York Harbor on February 22, 1846. Trip was normally 10 days, this trip took 14 days. This is only the beginning of the problems on this ship.
