The last heard from Evelyn was about the time my aunt died in 1989, so I answered her and gave her the news. Since then I have never heard from her and do not think she is at the address given, which was Portsmouth, Virginia, USA. She returned to New Zealand at least twice to see her family here and I saw her briefly. Her husband was Boatswain Douglas Manning from the US Navy. They lived in Texas for a while when she first went over as he was stationed somewhere there, and they eventually ended up in Virginia where he was stationed. She had a few children and is probably a gt grandmother by now. I thought I would like to hear from her but don't know how to contact her so thought I would try the War Brides list when I came across it.

The cutting belonged to my aunt and I found it after she died. It is sure to be from the N.Z. Herald which is published in Auckland, New Zealand, but I have no idea what date it was as that wasn't written on the cutting. The text at the bottom reads:- "Wives of American Servicemen who leave Auckland by the Monterey this afternoon making their children happy aboard the ship. They are, from left: Mrs Adrienne Smith, Mrs Harold R. Cardin, Mrs W. F. Langford (not very distinct), and Mrs Evelyn S. Manning." Evelyn had her daughter, Diane, with her.
