United States
Eastern Region
Table Tennis League

Objective

The United States Eastern Region Table Tennis League (USERTTL) has been founded on the belief that it will have a direct influence on transforming Table Tennis into a highly regarded and accepted sport in the United States.

It has been organized primarily to improve the level of performance among players of all levels of play, increase participation, activity, enthusiasm, motivation, membership and foster better relations among players by encouraging:

Team spirit, Pride and Tradition

It is intended to serve as a Pilot Program to generate publicity for the sport of Table Tennis and to attract prospective sponsors to support our efforts and activities so as to help ensure the Leagues’ continued success.

Goals

The ultimate goal is to link up with other Regions to form the first ever United States of America National Table Tennis League (USANTTL). To mobilize the twenty-odd million Ping-Pong players in the United States through the League concept and programs so that we would have a bigger pool from which to draw from in the hope of someday producing a World Champion.

Leagues

All major Table Tennis powers in the world have a National League System in place and I cannot over emphasize the importance of an well-organized and well-structured League System. I believe very strongly that we must:

FOCUS on the INFRASTRUCTURE of TABLE TENNIS in the UNITED STATES In order to develop meaningfully and significantly.

Unequivocally, NATIONAL LEAGUES WORK and LEAGUES are IMPERATIVE

Associations

There are thirteen Tournament States in the Eastern Region: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia

An Association of individuals shall be established in each State. These individuals will oversee the selection process of Teams based on Trials and or USATT Ratings to represent their respective State in the established Divisions.

Structure

The League shall be structured so as to accommodate eight divisions as follows:

  • THE PREMIER DIVISION: consisting of players rated 2200 and above
  • THE ELITE DIVISION: consisting of players rated 1900 to 2199
  • THE STAR DIVISION: consisting of players rated 1600 to 1899
  • THE CHALLENGE DIVISION: consisting of players rated 1300 to 1599
  • THE COMERS DIVISION: consisting of players rated 1000 to 1299
  • THE SENIOR DIVISION: consisting of players ranging from 45 to 55 years of age
  • THE ESQUIRE DIVISION: consisting of players ages 56 and above
  • THE Department of Parks, Schools and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America Recreational League for beginners
Divisions ‘A’ and ‘B’ would be competitive on a State versus State basis involving some weekend travel. The top two Teams in each of these Divisions will qualify for a final play-off at the end of the season, at a location to be determined, for the distinction of becoming the first Eastern Region League Champion and runner-up. The next two qualifying Teams in each Division will qualify for a play-off for the third and fourth positions.

Divisions ‘C’ through ‘G’ would be competitive within their respective States with the top Teams in each Division advancing to a play-off against Teams from other States that are in their Division. This competition will be concluded over a weekend period at a venue to be determined. The distinction of becoming the first Eastern Region League Champions, runners-up and other positions in these Divisions would certainly merit special recognition.

Division ‘H’ is intended for Coaching and Clinics for the youth of the Department of Parks and Recreation Centers, Schools and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. They would not be introduced as participants in the League Program until the beginning of the second season.

The Eastern Region League Program will be launched from September 2000 through March of the following year. In addition to the League competition, in February of each year, a Closed League Individual Championship will be organized in which some twelve (12) events would be competed for over a weekend period.
