Wed. 12/15/04: Month 14 post-accutane

Wow! It's been a year and 2 months since accutane...

So, I'm still doing great! I don't even know what to write about anymore (which is a super-good thing!!)

Skin is still nice... The redness has gone down a lot, and I mean, A LOT! There's still traces of pink, but who am I to complain? When I put on makeup, the pinkness basically disappears and I even put on blush now.

I still get a zit here and there, but that's normal. You know how those people with great skin breaks out? Well, that's how I break out now: once in a while. Actually, about 2 weeks ago, I broke out with zits around my neck area, but I never freaked out or anything; I just let them run their course and now they're dying and left me with some discolored spots, but those will eventually fade, too.

As for those glycolic peels: basically, after the last one I wrote about back in August, I never got another one. It wasn't because it wasn't good...it was because I didn't schedule a followup appointment and noticed that my skin was alright. Since my skin was doing good, I figure I'll just go if an awful eruption happens. Well, I'm super glad to say that there hasn't been a need to schedule an appointment since that last appointment.

Hair's doing good, too. No abnormal hairloss. No frizziness. Conditioners are great! It has returned my hair to its pre-accutane days: straight and soft. I just use any shampoo or conditioner that is made for dry/damaged hair.

As for my beauty regimen, there's not much of one. It's simple:

Daily Regime:

Morning:
1. Wash with Olay Cleanser for Sensitive Skin (I ran out of Triaz 3% and never had a chance to see my derma for more. I haven't seen him in months...YES!!)
2. Moisturize with Purpose Lotion with SPF 15.
3. Makeup (Sheer Cover).

Night:
1. Wash with Olay Cleanser for Sensitive Skin (it takes off makeup, too, and it's less expensive than Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming cleanser.)
2a. Spot treat with Klaron (very seldom)
2b. Cetaphil lotion (whenever skin feels dry)

And that's it! Nothing else, no masks, no peels, no oxy, no clearasil, no acne overnight patches...nothing! The simpler the better. I have come to terms with my skin. It is sensitive and it likes gentle stuff. I don't use anything with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide or whatever...it's too drying. I avoid anything that's not made for sensitive skin and I think most people should, too, because products for sensitive skin is nothing but a gentler version of the other versions...so, why not buy something that is gentler for your skin?

And a final note: Life without acne is so much better. And to have someone respond to me after I said "Oh, I should make an appointment to see my dermatologist" with "Why do you need to see a dermatologist? What's wrong with your skin? Your skin is fine. There's nothing on it" feels soooo damnnn gooood. Those people who say that acne doesn't make a difference in someone's quality of life are morons. Those people who say that people who are affected negatively by acne are weak are insensitive jerks. Don't let them bother you.

As for you, who's reading this, and still fighting acne, PERSEVERE! Write me if anything...
