Sat. 12/6/03: Month 2 post-accutane
It's been 2 months after accutane! and my skin has steadily gotten better! YES! It's less red. It doesn't have that sunburn look to it anymore. The red marks has become less red. The few active zits on my face when I first went off accutane is gone now. In fact, I really don't have any active zit on my face. Well, maybe one or two small ones, but I don't really count them since one or two is like nothing as compared to what I used to have.
I went to see my derma today to do a non-ablative laser treatment for my acne scars. This was my first treatment. I'm supposed to get a total of 6 treatments; once a month for six months.
It wasn't particularly painful, but it was more painful than I would've thought. I thought it would be pain-free because it's non-ablative, but it has this pin-pricking sensation on my skin when the treatment is applied. It lasted for about 10 seconds and it doesn't hurt anymore. Still, it was uncomfortable.
I hope it's worthed the price (both the pain and money).
Other than that, I've been doing the same thing:
Morning:
1. wash with Triaz
2. apply Mederma on affected areas.Afternoons:
1. apply mederma if I can remember to.Nights:
1. Wash with Triaz
2. apply Klaron on affected areas.
3. Take 500mg of Vita C; 400iu of Vita E; and 5mg of BiotinOther things to do: Eat lots of fish, vegetables, fruits, and drink lots of water! (I used to hate fish, but I've noticed recently that it seems to make my skin look better. So, now it's one of my favorite foods. By the way, I'm totally believing that diets have to do with acne. I'll be watching what I eat from now on.)
Notes on the Mederma: I'm supposed to apply it 3 or 4 times a day, but I keep forgetting to do that, so I apply on average twice a day, sometimes just once a day. Seldom 3 times a day and never 4 times a day. =/
I love the Triaz and the Klaron!
Notes on side effects: I don't really noticed any side effects anymore, except for my hair =(. It's still falling out and I'm washing my hair more often (about 2 or 3 times a week now), because it's getting oilier. I'm hoping that it will cease soon. It has been 2 months post-accutane. So, I think it's supposed to start reverting back to normal hair growth rate in about 3 to 6 months. So, I hope to announce good news by next month on the progress of my hair. I'm still using Nioxin to wash my hair; just the shampoo, no conditioner. I wait until my hair is really oily before I wash it. This way, it gets conditioned by the oil and I wouldn't need to use the conditioner in the shower. Also, I think it means less hair-washing days if I skip the conditioner; my hair wouldn't get as oily. I know, gross. But this is what I have to do to avoid losing hair in the shower.
Other than that, I used to experience some exhaustion, but I think that has totally left, because I did a vigorous workout last week and I didn't feel exhausted at all. In fact, I felt great!
Skin is getting oilier, but probably not as oily as pre-accutane days.
I experienced depression while on accutane. However, I still can't blame the drug, because it could be just the acne. Yet, it was the worst type of depression I've ever felt, so maybe, just maybe, the drug has something to do with it. How do I feel now? Much, much better! In fact, I feel very normal, sometimes even good! I am not afraid to leave the house anymore. Of course, that has more to do with my face looking a lot better than with my mood.
