During the war I worked at Fisher-Body General Motors. They made automobiles there before the war. When the war broke out, they turned it into a war plant. We had to wear slacks and shirt. Also had to wear a babushka ( turban ) on our heads. We had to make sure all our hair was covered. It was fun. I had to go to school for six weeks to learn the job. I used the rivet gun and my partner would be on the other side with a big bar to hold against the rivet to push it when I shot the rivet. We made the big part where the propeller sat in. It was big enough that 8 people that used the gun could stand in it. We were making B29's. Most of the men wee off to war so women were needed in the work force. We were dubbed 'Rosy the Riveter'. The work was hard and we got a lot of heck if we didn't do it correct because they would have to scrap it. Metal was precious and we had to be as efficient as possible.
